A hidden gem in the Exmoor national Park with fantastic walking from the door. A recently refurbished double room was very comfortable. The range of local ales and food was tremendous and the staff were very helpful. A very relaxing place for a break. The dog loved it too!

Fabulous location, great looking building, really let down by lack of organisation and poor staff. We visited as a family for Sunday lunch - it wasn't very busy but had to wait an age to order drinks (many of which we initially ordered such as a coca cola weren't available), we waited longer to order food and even longer still... After an absence of 30 years, I revisited this pub/restaurant, also hosting live music events, to sample it's fare. Following a trek to and from Heddon's Mouth, with family and friends, we ordered a ploughman's lunch (generous with its cheeses), tuna baguette (pictured), two burger dishes (one pictured and both very generous) and a smaller portion of tuna and cucumber... Had Two main dishes both over 10.00. One was a very average burger and one for a bowl of salad leaves with half a pear and a few walnuts. I never understand why it is so hard when asked to put dressing on the side with a salad. It was not on the side and was covered in oil... Quite... More

Having first stayed at Hunters Inn around 30 years ago we had a few days to spare in the UK and decided to visit again. Arriving in the early evening, the chef just happened to be passing and very kindly offered to carry some of our bags for us. A most welcome gesture that we took advantage of. The Hotel... More

Had a very brief stop here for a jacket potato, and it was impressive. My husband had a ploughman's and that too was very nice. Also impressed to see they offered a vegetarian roast. Sadly a bit too far for us to return to try it on another day.

We were staying nearby in Heddon's Gate so only popped in to the Hunters Inn for an afternoon drink and then some dinner later in the day. The setting is gorgeous. After a lovely walk along the coast to Woody Bay and back we stopped at the Hunters Inn for a mid afternoon drink. The garden setting in the afternoon... More

We booked this stay in November 2013, as we knew how good the hotel was . Arriving on sun 25th May 2014 for 7 nights , and the day before bank holiday , we knew things would be busy , as well as kids half term week. To summarise the week and not bore people : Stayed in room 8,... More

Stopped here for a spot of lunch with friends on our way along the coast path between Lynmouth and Combe Martin. We had a couple of nice pints (six to be exact) of the local ales but were very disappointed by the food. We asked for some £7 baguette sandwiches as shown on the menu but to take away so... More

Party of eight so we covered a number of main courses from menu. At best they were okay but all were overpriced. At worst (lamb cutlets) truely awful. Bad cut of meat not cooked at all well. When I pointed this out I was told abruptly that I should have asked for a sharp knife (however cost of meal was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hunters Inn pub is blessed with the most magical setting, tucked at the bottom of the exquisitely beautiful Heddon Valley on Exmoor. The narrow road from the moor descends beneath a canopy of ancient trees. Sun-dappled leaves glitter and gleam. The river runs past the inn and a short walk takes you to the beach. ... more   less
