What a fabulous place. Great location, nice clean rooms and decent food... Oh and it's licensed! Plenty of parking for cars and bicycles. If you are doing a Coast to Coast like we did the location is also ideal. We stayed in a 2 bunk en suite. The hostel was very well run. The staff were excellent and very friendly.... More

Thank you for your response. We are grateful that you consider us to be one of the best YHA's you've stayed in. I will pass your comments to the staff, as they are always concerned to make the customer happy. The manager is careful to select local products for the bar, such as Winkleigh Ciders Poundhouse Crisp and Sharps Doombar.... More

I counted one male toilet in the entire complex. This presents difficulties when you're recovering from a curry and the incumbent occupant has constipation or is trying to covertly shake hands with the President. The showers were pretty naff and smelly too, the nearest shops are quite a hike away, the kitchen is disgusting and the YHA beds are less... More

Not Enough Facilities: Thank you for your feedback. Most of our toilets/shower units are unisex, hence there are only two single-sex communal areas (Ladies and Gents) remaining in the building. As we have a rolling programme of improvements, more of the rooms are en-suite and hence have their own bathrooms. Whilst there is only 1 toilet (as opposed to 2... More

Great location on the edge of Dartmoor. Room was clean. Good but basic facilities as you might expect for YHA. One member of staff was a bit rude (about not having booked breakfast) and one didn't have any local knowledge (about bouldering).

Thank you for your comments. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back here. I will pass your comments to the reception staff and the housekeeping staff. I hope you took advantage of the bar, as we are proud to promote local ales such as Sharps Doombar and Winkleigh Ciders Pondhouse Crisp, both... More

We had a great one night stay in Okehampton YHA. We took two family rooms which were both fine. Beds were already made up for us which made a nice change for a YHA! We used the self catering kitchen which worked well and was clean and well equipped. My only tiny quibble would be that there was no hanging... More

We hired the whole place for a 40th birthday party. It's great for families to relax and not worry about getting home for the kids. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. The kitchen is fully equipped for catering for large numbers and the space is ideal for a party (bring your own stereo). We hired bikes and cycled the Granite... More

Thank you for your feedback, I will pass your comments on to the accommodation and front of house teams. We agree it's a great hostel for family gatherings, and we have some families who come back year after year. The proximity to the Granite Way makes it an easy cycle route, so we're glad you enjoyed your stay and look... More

I was part of a contingent of over a hundred young people and adults from a community youth project. We used the goods shed as our base location and it was a very comfortable setup to use. We had exclusive use due to the numbers and provided our own catering. The rooms were in very good condition and well presented.... More

Thank you for your feedback which we will pass onto the staff. We agree it's a great place for youth groups to stay and we try to accommodate all groups needs during their stay. As you rightly point out the en-suite rooms are good, especially for staff, and we have 2 bed ensuites and 4 bed ensuites upstairs, as well... More

Good rooms and facilities but the alarms were set off in the middle of the night by the warden having a pizza party. Loud and inconvenient especially when we all needed the sleep. Probably won't go again.

We are sorry to hear that the fire alarm went off during your stay disturbing your sleep. The live-in staff were cooking after they finished their shifts and unfortunately they did set the fire alarm off, but we understand they quickly alerted the group leaders as well as silencing the alarm so that the house guests did not have to... We had great fun here at Okehampton YHA camping in the Summer holidays. The campsite is relatively small, and in a field adjacent to the YHA car park. We were able to use all the facilities, including self catering kitchen, restaurant, games room and TV room, which made it a great place to stay for all the family. We could... More

Three of us stayed here over the Easter weekend for one night on a cycling tour of Devon. We found the hostel to be very good, with warm, comfortable and clean rooms and bathrooms. Situated by a steam railway track (I believe the hostel was a station house in a former life) gave us some interesting trains to see outside.... More

Thank you for your comments about the great location of the hostel for exploring the north of Dartmoor. With access to the high moors, there are many walking and cycling opportunities. I'll pass your comments onto the staff, as they appreciate the feedback. The cycle sheds do get busy when we have a lot of people doing the Devon Coast... More

Real unusual lovely place! it's a converted Railway station house and is in a very quiet secluded part of Okehampton. I had a whole room to myself and had a few lovely nights sleep on a bottom bunk.
