Room and bathroom good and clean, beds comfortable and the place was quiet. Busy so staff had a hard time dealing with all the queries but they did try to help everyone. Walked into town and had food and beer and a taxi back, after cycling all day we had had enough of the hills! Lovely building, didn't try the... More

Stayed in lots of YHAs over the years but this was a bit sad. Rooms clean but toilet/shower facilities very cramped. Food used cheap ingredients and it showed - think Asda bargain sausages and watered down scrambled egg and you'll get the idea. Basic so glad we only used it as a stopover.

We had a lovely 2 night stay with our two children (aged 5 and 7). The accommodation was a family room with en-suite, we wanted a cheep two nights away but also a little privacy. The room was clean and tidy. The activities we did was at an additional cost and we enjoyed them. We did bushcraft and climbing. The... More

So you are looking for lodgings in Okehampton and struggling. the YHA comes up and you giggle a bit. well that would be your loss. i went to a gig in the Simmons Park and could not find anywhere conventional to stay. Booking.com gave me the YHA but only one choice in a shared dormitory. Yeah right i will share... More

What a fabulous place. Great location, nice clean rooms and decent food... Oh and it's licensed! Plenty of parking for cars and bicycles. If you are doing a Coast to Coast like we did the location is also ideal. We stayed in a 2 bunk en suite. The hostel was very well run. The staff were excellent and very friendly.... More

Thank you for your response. We are grateful that you consider us to be one of the best YHA's you've stayed in. I will pass your comments to the staff, as they are always concerned to make the customer happy. The manager is careful to select local products for the bar, such as Winkleigh Ciders Poundhouse Crisp and Sharps Doombar.... More

I counted one male toilet in the entire complex. This presents difficulties when you're recovering from a curry and the incumbent occupant has constipation or is trying to covertly shake hands with the President. The showers were pretty naff and smelly too, the nearest shops are quite a hike away, the kitchen is disgusting and the YHA beds are less... More

Not Enough Facilities: Thank you for your feedback. Most of our toilets/shower units are unisex, hence there are only two single-sex communal areas (Ladies and Gents) remaining in the building. As we have a rolling programme of improvements, more of the rooms are en-suite and hence have their own bathrooms. Whilst there is only 1 toilet (as opposed to 2... More

Great location on the edge of Dartmoor. Room was clean. Good but basic facilities as you might expect for YHA. One member of staff was a bit rude (about not having booked breakfast) and one didn't have any local knowledge (about bouldering).

Thank you for your comments. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back here. I will pass your comments to the reception staff and the housekeeping staff. I hope you took advantage of the bar, as we are proud to promote local ales such as Sharps Doombar and Winkleigh Ciders Pondhouse Crisp, both... More

We had a great one night stay in Okehampton YHA. We took two family rooms which were both fine. Beds were already made up for us which made a nice change for a YHA! We used the self catering kitchen which worked well and was clean and well equipped. My only tiny quibble would be that there was no hanging... More

We hired the whole place for a 40th birthday party. It's great for families to relax and not worry about getting home for the kids. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. The kitchen is fully equipped for catering for large numbers and the space is ideal for a party (bring your own stereo). We hired bikes and cycled the Granite... More

Thank you for your feedback, I will pass your comments on to the accommodation and front of house teams. We agree it's a great hostel for family gatherings, and we have some families who come back year after year. The proximity to the Granite Way makes it an easy cycle route, so we're glad you enjoyed your stay and look... More

I was part of a contingent of over a hundred young people and adults from a community youth project. We used the goods shed as our base location and it was a very comfortable setup to use. We had exclusive use due to the numbers and provided our own catering. The rooms were in very good condition and well presented.... More

Thank you for your feedback which we will pass onto the staff. We agree it's a great place for youth groups to stay and we try to accommodate all groups needs during their stay. As you rightly point out the en-suite rooms are good, especially for staff, and we have 2 bed ensuites and 4 bed ensuites upstairs, as well... More
