It has all the trimmings - nice bedrooms, perfect location and it tries but lets itself down badly. If you want to eat in the formal restaurant make sure you book well before you arrive for your stay. I was there 2 nights and unable to eat in the restaurant either evening. On both occasions it was fully booked with... more

Together with two other couples and respective children, six in total, we booked a two night stay at Bovey. Fantastic location and hotel with lovely rooms and general areas. Badly let down on service when it came to drinks or food. As one of our party pointed out "I know we are near Torquay, but do they have to model... more

We stayed here at the beginning of April and just thought it was wonderful - by staying midweek we were able to get a cheaper deal than what you would expect to pay at the weekend. When you arrive you can tell the luxury of the site and to be honest we were a little bit worried it was too... more

We stayed in the one of the stunning lodges at Bovey, on the way back from a trip down South and what a fabulous way to end a very hectic week. Our purpose was to check out various places and be objective with regards to what is on offer. Bovey has such promise and it delivers in droves - stunning... more

Our party of eight - five adults and three kids - stayed at the hotel over the Bank Holiday weekend for a surprise birthday gathering. Grandparents and aunt stayed for three nights and we stayed with our kids just for the Saturday. The location is absolutely stunning and the views fabulous. It's a characterful hotel with lovely lounges to sit... more

Ever since we were attended friends' wedding at Bovey Castle in 2004, we've been tempted to go back and we are very pleased to say we were not disappointed by our recent stay overall. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and we enjoyed exploring the local countryside on foot. All the staff we encountered were professional, friendly and sufficiently... more

I stayed here at the end on January with some friends. The location was superb and the hotel welcoming with log fires and comfy sofas. The spa treatment was first class. I found the bistro quite adequate for dinner. The main dining room was a little to formal and less relaxed. The staff were friendly and helpful without being obstrusive.... more

Bovey Castle has lots of very impressive qualities. First, there's the location - a perfectly stunning part of Dartmoor and a stunning castle building to boot. A lot of effort has gone into the refurbishment, clearly, and the rooms are stunning and comfortable, with lots of lovely small things like bowls of fresh rasperries, fresh milk and so on. The... more

Didn't stay at hotel but went for afternoon tea there on Easter Sunday. Was really nice, took a little while to take our order but good service otherwise. Tasty cakes and a decent amount of cream and jam for the scones. Would have preferred fewer children around but it was Easter hols after all and still some quiet relaxing areas... more

Service was impeccable, room was lovely with lots of nice touches eg a bowl of fresh raspberries when we arrived, grounds lovely and the falconry display on Sunday morning after breakfast a bonus. Dinner in the bistro was good and reasonably priced, the only slight fault was that the breakfast was very average. more
