We were supposed to have camped the night we stayed here but the weather was not on our side. Very thankful for this now as we had a wonderful stay at the Castle Inn. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food gorgeous and the room oldy worldy! Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Would recommend... More

We have eaten hear a couple of times now. As pub food goes it's up there and serves great grub. I have had the pie both times and its been spot on. It has a good selection of real ales and they are well kept. The last time we was in was Sunday the 5th of May 2013 and the... More

Didn't stay at this pub but visited for a meal. Fantastic pub - happily welcomed dogs as well as their owners! Food was delicious, couldn't fault it. Lovely tranquil garden area. One of the nicest pub meals we've had in a long while. Would definitely go back.

Probably as close to the archetypal English pub as you'll ever get. Utterly perfect. Flagstone floors, cosy booths, open fire. Well kept beer, great food with friendly and efficient service, a very hospitable welcome. We stayed on our second night of a three day cycling break, and were able to park our bikes under cover. The room we had was... More

Excellent pub with good beer and a friendly atmosphere that serves tasty pub food including its Pie's which are fully desrerved of their 'award winning' status! We've eaten here several times and have always had good service.

Wonderful location for a three night walking break in a very old and truly atmospheric village pub. Next to castle and interesting church and within 5 minutes walk of National Trust Lydford Gorge.Very friendly and helpful pub staff, wide range of very well cooked food in large portions, great beer and unbelieveably clean in spite of the pubs C16 credentials.... All that you could wish for in a rural English pub. A group of nine friends dined early one Sunday evening after a long ardous walk on Dartmoor, had not booked but that did not matter. We were ravenous and the meal sated our appetites. Good fast service. Staff exceptionally friendly. Am looking forward to next visit already.

This is really worth a detour...or a trip especially when you want somewhere to eat while visiting north west Dartmoor or walking The Granite or Two Castles Way (superb walking). Good beer, great pub food and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Rainy afternoon....order a later taxi to your hotel and just sit by the Fire, Eat, Drink and Relax :)

stopped off initially for coffee by the logfire to get out of the rain and stayed for lunch. Friendly welcome and helpful service. Pub got very busy quickly with lively customers and plenty of post Christmas cheer. The food was excellent and very generous portions. I had the cauliflower and broccoli bake with chips and a vegetables (the red and... More

The Castle Inn is a traditional 16th-century inn situated in Lydford, on the Western slopes of Dartmoor National Park. Built in 1550, its plain pink exterior offers no clues as to what awaits you inside. It oozes with character from every nook and cranny. The lamp-lit bar with low, bowed ceilings, many curios, slate floors and an open fire, the lovely snug with high backed settles and the charming restaurant with beamed ceiling. There is a pretty garden to the back of the inn with more seating and views of the castle. Whether you fancy a pint of Tribute and a chat with the locals, a quick bite to eat or a full meal, the the Castle Inn offers wonderful food and drink in comfortable and relaxing surroundings.
