We were booked in for 3 nights stay. The room was good, recently refurbished, apart from an old double bed with uncomfortable springs. Had meal in the in-house Italian restaurant but both of us found the food very bland and tasteless. We went to bed at 10pm but were kept awake by the sound of a screaming child and two... more

We wished we had time to stay more nights. The building is away from traffic, lovely grounds, and large inviting lounge. Our first-floor room was inviting and quiet, set away from the public areas. The Italian restaurant proved an unexpected asset for dinner. The servers were very professional with a family beleaguered by active toddlers. The inn's well-behaved dogs romping... more

Ours was a successful walking holyday from the 10th till the 21st of July this year, despite the awful weather in the south-west of England. We tried to have a glimpse of different national parks and resided in the New Forest, Dartmoor, on the south coast and in Exmoor. In Lydford we stayed at the Lydford Country House. Clean hotel,... more

This is a lovely place to stay. The room we stayed in, Hare Tor, had lovely decor and furniture and was spacious; although this was a room for 3 and there was only 2 of us. The bathroom was great too, although the water pressure could varying in the shower. Just a great place with really good food and service.... more

We have just spent three nights celebrating our Wedding Anniversary at the Lydford Country House and could not have chosen a nicer venue. We had a superior room with a beautiful shower room (although I would have liked, and expected to see a bath). The King Size bedded room was spacios and comfortable with a 32" wall mounted LCD television.... more

The bed was extremely uncomfortable - the mattress offered no support although we were told it was new Good TV and choice of channels but difficult to watch it in the room because of its position Athough modern, the shower trickled and was ineffective. Cheap toilet paper! Disappointed about aspects of cleanliness in the room and garden Pet friendly (main... more

We stayed at the Lydford hotel the first Friday in January. There were 7 of us in 3 rooms. Every room was spacious and beautiful, and although we were the only people staying that night, they went out of their way to make us feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble, they even lit the lovely log fire up for... more

Great location. The rooms are very new and wonderfuly clean. Possibly our only complaint was that we booked a superior room which we thought would have included a bath but instead had a shower room. You must eat at the restaurant as the food is just brilliant. Breakfasts are healthy and totally yummy. Staff are all very friendly. The sitting... more

Absolutely great. Beautiful hotel surrounded by lovely countryside and great walks. Room was superb and couldn't be faulted. Everyone very welcoming (our 2 dogs were made very welcome too). We ate in the restaurant in the evening and our meal was very enjoyable, as was breakfast in the morning. Will definitely be going back. more

Beautiful house and setting. We stayed in one of the newly decorated rooms; very modern, 32" TV, large bath and shower. The room was well appointed and comfortable. Our dog Ted was made most welcome. Lydford is a lovely village. We'd been to the Gorge before, but this time managed to take a trek to Lydford Castle, and the Castle... more
