Only stayed for 1 night but were given a lovely warm welcome and the staff looked after us really well. The evening menu was absolutely fantastic and all of our meals were cooked to perfection. If we lived in the area it would be our first choice of places to eat. The rooms are a little dated hence 4 stars... More

I have stayed at this pub many years now and I love the hearty atmosphere around. The rooms are a little tired but still have their main function. I'd recommend an upstairs room. The dining is great, they have tasty main courses and desserts alike. In the mornings they do toast or an English breakfast. The staff are competent and... More

Called in for Sunday Lunch and was quite pleasantly surprised. OK, the food is pub fayre but the veggies in particular were beautifully prepared and presented. Rarely do you see fennel on the menu. The lamb was nicely roayed, if cut a tad to thick for my wife's taste; each to their own... Finally, the bar staff were attentive and... More

We are glad that you and your wife enjoyed your meal with us yesterday. I have passed on your comments to the kitchen team and asked them to cut the meat a little thinner in future! I can only apologise about no hot water in the men's washroom - an inheritance from the previous tenants I'm afraid and one that... More

Am still on a high from my delicious Dinner at The Rising Sun Inn, Woodland this evening. Was made very welcome from the moment I arrived and was very impressed with the menu choices available. I chose Chicken and Bacon Carbonara served with homemade bread and can honestly say such was the even more delicious than any I have eaten... More

We stopped on a whim, not sure if they were open as the car park was empty. However, open they were and we were the only guests. I guess you'd expect a great lunch if the chef had no one else to concentrate on and we weren't disappointed. I ate from the light lunch menu, the rest from the main... More

We had a very pleasant bank holiday weekend at, 'The Rising Sun'. We've stayed there a handful of times and Gary and Sarah are always very welcoming. Its nice to be greeted first thing for breakfast with a hearty good morning. The pub food is very good and evening atmosphere is very relaxed especially when having a few pints of... More

When my father sold his bungalow and went into residential care I needed a base for visits to him from my home 200 miles away that would also be happy with me bringing along my dog. Over the last year I have stayed here many times and found hospitality second to none. Sadly Dad passed away last month and Gary... More

I went to a work's Christmas meal and the service and food was great. I wanted to write a review not only because the food was so good but because the staff are really friendly and helped me to raise funds for charity. I'm running the London Marathon and they donated a £40 voucher for a raffle and put up... More

Having lived in Devon we regretably never managed to visit this establishment. Now having moved away we were passing with some time to kill before having to be back in Newton Abbot.By chance we were nearby and so dropped in. It was a Wednesday lunch time, just after Easter, and it turned out that we were the only couple there.... More

We very rarely do reviews, so when we do the business we write about is something special. We have just arrived back from an unplanned visit to the Rising Sun. A spur of the moment visit, and our fifth time at this pub. Once again a very warm welcome from the staff, and the log fire. The food here is... More
