Yes, it is expensive. Yes, it is worth it. Yes, we would go again if we could afford it. We stayed two nights in Fruity Metcalfe for our Silver Wedding Anniversary. A few detailed points 1. The procedure for arrival could be less stressful if there were a map showing the car park. 2. Our room was lovely with fabulous... More

This place is unique! It has style, character and an ambience different to anywhere else. Just to walk around the grounds and hotel is an experience on its own. The attention to detail is great as is the unobtrusive service by very hard working staff. Any faults? Well, there were 1 or 2 minor points, but this was more to... More

Just a quick note to thank all the staff at the hotel for helping us celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We stayed in the beach house which was magical, all the staff were friendly, courteous and professional. The decor, the food, the music all made us feel like we were transported back to the 1920s, we plan to rebook for... More

All ready to enjoy a wonderful dinner dance night out at the Hotel until we called for the sea tractor to ferry us across to Burgh Island and the hotel decided it was too 'windy' to sent the tractor out! Considering it was 18:15 o'clock, a clear blue sky and only 14mph winds with no waves, the decision clearly had... More

Once you have figured out when you need to get there and where to drop off the car (not sure why a map of the parking area could not be provided) it really is a special experience. The staff from the drivers porters receptionists to the waiters/waitresses were very helpful without being overbearing. I enjoyed the evening food with the... More

Just returned from a fabulous two days staying in the Jo Baker suite at the Burgh Island Hotel. Expensive? Yes, but worth every penny. The suite was a delight with original 1930's furnishings and a beautiful view from the lounge out across the Mermaid Pool. The hotel bar with its peacock theme (glass domed roof, mosaic fountain and classically art... More

To celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary this year we were to be joined by my brother and his wife. When your brother has held a Michelin star for 20 years the pressure was really on to pick the right hotel. We find an excuse to celebrate at Burgh Island most years but were unsure if our guests would appreciate its... More

We had a very friendly welcome. The room was fairly basic especially considering the price but position is stunning. Food was fantastic - I'm not a pudding or breakfast person but was spoilt for choice on both occasions. An unforgettable experience -glad that we paid a visit.

I have to confess this is my second review and, as promised in my earlier one in April, we did return over the past weekend. We spent three nights in Bentley which, remarkably, we enjoyed slightly more than the Fruity Metcalfe suite. Once again every single member of staff combined to make us feel special and to make our stay... More

We had always fancied a weekend away here, but thought the cost was too high, but a birthday celebration beckoned so I held my breath and took the plunge......and was rewarded magnificently in return. Friendly and helpful staff, lovely room with great views, super food well prepared and a wonderful ambience...it really was like going back 70 years. It was... More
