Located in a picturesque corner of Devon, and a short drive from Exeter, Bickleigh Castle is well-placed for weekends away. However......our room (17) was very tired-looking and the carpet was extremely grubby. We did have a pleasant view onto the courtyard, though. Had we paid the full amount for the room (£140), we would have rather aggrieved at the accommodation.... More

We're sorry these customers were not very happy with their stay. Re the room's carpet, we are gradually replacing the carpets and will tackle this room shortly; it is in other respects a nice room. Rather surprised that breakfast was felt to be not too good an experience and this will come up in the next staff meeting. The point... More

Stayed here for a birthday treat August 2014 . Lovely place nice room quaint , lovely hillside veiw from bedroom window , nice seating area outside where we enjoyed a bottle of wine , there is also a sheltered area where we relaxed in the late evening before we went to our room . The castle tour is a must... More

My husband brought an Amazon deal for a surprise stay at the castle but unfortunately we was given a downstairs room in the cottage. The room was very dated small TV with extension Leeds and cables around the floor but the worst thing was the room above us had creaky floorboards and people staying in that room kept us up... More

We are really very sorry that this couple had a less than satisfactory visit. I have to observe, however, two points: one is that the cottages which hold most of the accommodation here are all Listed Grade 2 and date from the 18th Century back to the 17th. So creaky floorboards are almost unavoidable (and indeed are part of the... More

Well, im a little late in writing this review, we stayed there for our anniversary last year in November. Beautiful setting, amazing location, but bad management. No welcoming gestures when we arrived there. We were shown our room on the arrival which was very cosy and clean, Cath kidson linen make sit extra special. But the toilet had to be shared,... More

We are very sorry this couple did not enjoy their stay. I am surprised at the comments about service as we normally give very good service and I can only apologise if it fell short on this occasion - though I can't help feeling the member of staff remarked upon was probably joking. Note though that this review dates back... More

Attended a wedding here 2nd Aug... poor service, poorly trained staff!!!! Poor manners, ran out of beer in evening!!! Dog poo in numerous places on croquet lawn which was part of planned events!!! Raking in thousands for this kind of service is shocking...filthy bathrooms and carpets that need ripping up!....beautiful setting spoilt by greedy governers....AVOID!

I don't know quite what these people have against us, but their views do not in any way reflect the opinions of other guests at the Wedding, including the Bride & Groom who were very happy and indeed have since called in especially to thank us. There was indeed an issue about dog poo which was very unfortunate - never... More

We have just come back from the most delightful stay at this gorgeous Castle and we we're overwhelmed with it. We were lucky to have been given the Tudor Room , which is also the Bridal Suite, being able to have the Castle to ourselves once we locked the main door at night. John showed us around once we had... More

Stayed here for a 2 night break. We stayed in room 17 which overlooked the courtyard and the red carpeted area. Our room was tastefully decorated with an ensuite in the corner. At check-in you are given a map of the area showing nearby pubs, restaurants etc. So the first evening we walked up to the Trout Inn, about 12mins,... More

We stayed at Bickleigh Castle for 2 nights - 3 to 5 August 2014. We had a warm welcome on arrival from Robert, present custodian of this beautiful hamlet. Our room was in the thatched clock house which dates back centuries. We had original wooden beams above our comfy double bed. The room was airy and comfortable and furnished accordingly.... More
