My husband and I celebrated our 15yr anniversary at Bickleigh castle and were very happy to have stayed there as its fantastic! The castle is amazing and the owner gave a very interesting tour! Very special in a beautiful location. There is a stunning river and bridge at the bottom of the road where you can sit in a pub... More

Lovely place to stay, very welcoming the staff were extremely lovely and made our stay comfortable, Breakfast was of a high standard and rooms were very clean and tidy. The grounds are kept beautifully tidy, would happily return.

I was extremely dissapointed. I was greeted by a filthy carpet that had not been hoovered before we got there the room was covered in dust and the musty smell was over powering. I was unimpressed to find the last occupants rubbish in the bins and their hairs and slime in the bath tub. The bathrooms (shared) belong in a... More

Well, this one really is putting our lovely venue in a bad light. The simple answer is that the guests were clearly taken to the wrong room, i.e. one that had not been prepared. Whoever showed them in should have rectified this instantly and the matter has been investigated internally. We apologise unreservedly for the substandard presentation. More

Stayed in " Bridal Suite " which is the only room in the oldest part of the Castle,11th Century.Large four poster bed ,creaking floors and ensuite over private landing. Had an excellent 4 night stay 3rd to 7th of August. All other rooms in Cottages. If you want a special break with authentic history based in the beautiful Devon countryside and... More

This is such a mixed review and like the previous 2 reviewers it feels like marmite, you either love it or hate it. The setting is wonderful and John makes up for everything, so in the end, we did love it, however......... Prior to arrival and having very elderly parents I had asked John what time would be best to... More

Apart from the unfortunate start to this guest's visit, I felt we actually gave them a very good stay and we made a special effort to make them feel very welcome thereafter. The issue of keeping the car outside could very easily have been resolved and I'm not sure why it wasn't, as (although a private estate with private parking)... More

My boyfriend and I had booked 3 nights with the groupon deal in a superior room. Had I known this 'superior room' was actually very small and consisted of smelling of the toilet, which was practically right next to the bed, I would not have stayed. We arrived only to be greeted by a strange housekeeper who was shocked that... More

We are sorry about this review. The usual manager was away the day this couple arrived and seems they were inadvertently shown into a room that had not been prepared, because we certainly do not nornally show guests into rooms as described, even if the state has been slightly exaggerated. I am puzzled about 'Exmouth' because we were told 'Ilfracombe'... More

Stayed for 1 night here for business. Located well in the country so be prepared for no reception on your phone and hotel broadband that is flakey at best. Rooms are quite dated and their was a musky smell in the room. In my kindness I accepted a room with a dripping toilet, not the best idea but survived. To... More

The various points are noted. The room in question we were not sure why there was a 'musky smell' but we investigated and found there was an issue with floor boards which has now been resolved with some difficulty. Cleaning points noted. Much as I am loathe to stray from 'the customer is always right' I have to say that... More

Stayed here on a groupon deal but have to say we would be willing to pay full price - it's just a real gem. Fabulous location on the Exe Valley way if you enjoy walking and two fabulous pubs close enough to walk to (I preferred Fisherman's Cot - husband preferred The Trout) so take your pick - both excellent... We stayed at this location on a Groupon deal - as had everyone else. The castle (yes there is a real castle its not just a name) was set away from the main roads in a remote location and is mainly a wedding venue. The accommodation is in the mainly 16th/17th century buildings in the grounds around the castle. Our... More

You cant fault this place for its beauty and location, wonderful views and although out of town, within walking distance of local eateries. Very pleasant hosts. The room we had, although small, was tastefully decorated, modern and very clean. Breakfast .... Now that was the downfall. It was included but it was continental and if you wanted a full English... We don't often have such a negative response to our generally popular breakfasts! But actually, this gives us a chance to mention that we are changing the way we present breakfast by including extra options and making all choices of breakfast included in the B&B price. There is no rationing of the croissants, contrary to the comment, but it is... More
