Having read previous reports we were not expecting anything wonderful. Just as well - our room was tired, outdated, but spotlessly clean. The ensuite bathroom was large and clean but sadly also in need of refurbishment. The curtains in both the bedroom and bathroom were very old and were only hanging from wires. We were immediately over the kitchen so... more

First problem we encountered was on arrival, from the 8pm ferry, when I asked the surly receptionist for the dining room. She told us that the dining room closed at 7.30pm. I asked why, knowing that guests are arriving on the 8pm ferry, do they take bookings for half-board including a dinner on arrival date? She had no answer, and... more

Good basic room (you're never there, why fuss?), good food, friendly, helpful staff, 8 mins walk into St Helier or bus every 20 mins, right at the door. Get an Island Explorer bus pass £22 for 5 days, takes you all over Jersey more

Some hotels are impressive when you walk through their lavish opulent receptions only to find that the rooms do not match. The Carlton however does not seek to do that - what you get at reception is what you get in your room. This, as other reviewers have pointed out, is a gateway to the 1970s although I would have... more

We have stayed here before and we liked it just as much this time. The food is good, the staff are very friendly and helpful the rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels left (even though the rooms do need a bit of updating) so all in all we had a nice time Thankyou every one at the carlton. more

I'll be perfectly honest, the trip to Jersey was a last minute cheap deal so I wasn't expecting an awful lot from the hotel. But I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it is on a main road making parking a nightmare - something the hotel staff were very helpful with though, they have a small patch of ground a few metres... more

We stayed at the Carlton and were very disappointed. This hotel is in desperate need of care. The building was tacky and very run down, the walls were paper thin and the amenities were lacking. The staff were reasonably friendly, but for the price we paid, I would have expected much more. Although it was located right on the water,... more

My visit to St. Helier coincided with the Battle of the Flowers - the weather was superb - the atmosphere a mix of old world charm and the excitement and spectacle of pageant. A combination of swimming, reading, eating at small waterfront seafood restaurant followed by an independant exploration of the island using Link Bus Services afforded a wonderful opportunity to... more
