It's a great hotel in a small town, where everyone knows each other. It seems like living with family, as everybody is so friendly and welcoming. Eimer is the most cheerful person and great to see her at reception welcoming everyone. We stayed there 3 nights and got to meet the owners Christine and Johnny Boyle, who are a lovely... More

Stayed in this classic hotel last week and loved it. It's not grand or pretentious. It's the real deal, an old style hotel in a small town in a beautiful county. It has a lovely atmosphere, clean rooms, good food, and above all friendly staff. Great value, I'll be back :)

We decided to take a break for a night and decided on this hotel in Glenries. Emer, the receptionist was so lovely, even offered to carry our bags to our room! Room was ideal, hotel was beautiful and very easy to find- on Glenties main street. We had dinner that night and was great, very friendly staff and couldn't do... More

We celebrated here for my Dad's 60th in mid April. As early as June last year we were harassing and harrying the staff with ludicrous requests that would make the day special. No requests was too big or too small and everything was done with a smile and a simple "no problem". A small example of this was we asked... More

Went there recently for a christening. The bar area is quite dilapidated and needs some TLC. The reception on the TV was incredibly bad given the advent of HD television and pretty sure that this was an analogue signal given the fuzziness of the picture. We had a sit down meal with family. Service was mostly excellent and having to... More

If you want to experience a genuine' old fashioned' family run Irish hotel then head for The Highlands . We used to come here in the 80s for their wonderful steaks and decided to spend our a night here last Sunday night . It hasn't changed much in over 30 years and we had a lovely stay. The staff ,all... More

We had this bought for us as a gift on Living Social and had not read any reviews. On arrival we realised that this was not a hotel for us and stayed only the one night. The room was very cold, bed hard and not a good sleep. We did eat there that night, as it was freezing outside and... More

Back again to my favourite hotel in Ireland. This hotel is perfect for families, couples, groups and people on their own. The staff are really lovely and are really helpful, they really do go out of their way to help you. The food is brilliant, really tasty and the portions are very generous. The prices are very good too. I... More

Lovely stay. September 5th-7th . Welcoming staff. Older hotel but everything works and great atmosphere not just as per dancing but in hotel in general. People reading books over a pint etc. Food excellent. Really enjoyed the stay. Cannot understand the reviews from earlier years. For an older hotel this place has everything you need either on a break like... More

Unfortunately we didn't stay at the highlands hotel but we did go there during our holiday for an evening meal, so my comments reflect only on that and not on the quality or otherwise of the establishment as a hotel. We visited the hotel on Thursday 20th August 2014 for, as I said an evening meal, and we had a... More
