Arrived with very high expectations! Dinner cost Euro 70 per person. For that we got cold salads, eel, oysters and a large side of stone cold beef with the blood running out of it, some very dry turkey and ham and some cold duck. We had to help ourselves. We asked for water but the waiter did not seem interested... more

We stayed three nights at Ballymaloe House during their 'Music Week'! It was fabulous! Absolutely wonderful! The staff are so good..........warm, kind, helpful! The rooms are big and very welcoming. The grounds are gorgeous! There is alot to do there.....or nothing at all!!! Heaven!!! The rooms are large and comfortable. We had a room which opened out onto a little... more

We didn't make it to Ballymaloe House because of a death in the family two days before we were to arrive. They were very gracious about canceling our reservation without a charge (even though it was within their two-day 100% cancellation charge period). We appreciated that tremendously. more

Having read some of the less than complimentary reviews I just had to address the balance. We have stayed at Ballymaloe twice a year for the past four years and a couple of times before then. It is our most favourite hotel - not because it is five star, super luxurious, but simply because, unlike any other hotel we have... more

This isn't a stay option for everyone --- and that's why you should thank them for it, because the Toms, Dicks and Harrys that make your hotel a long, loud clatterspace are nowhere in evidence. The loudest shout you'll hear at Ballymaloe House is the excited squeal of a toddler who rounds a shrubbery and comes across --- ducklings! Yes,... more

I'm rather surprised to see some of the poor reviews of this beautiful hotel on this site - they seem so far removed from my own experiences there that I thought I'd redress the balance by doing something I never usually do: write an internet review!! The location is everything you'd want from a country house hotel, from its vast... more

Like many others reviewing the hotel, I have returned there having had good memories. Sadly, it is true you should never go back. Why didn't I take any notice of some of the comments I read on Tripadvisor? I thought they were probably exaggerated. I was wrong. The sitting rooms are lovely, especially when the fire is lit. The food... more

I have just read a review from guests staying at the same time as we did and could not disagree more!!! This was my fifth visit to Ballymaloe in two years, I have taken my best friend for her 50th Birthday and she could not have been happier and a party of four of us later joined by 4 Irish... more

We stayed for 2 nights and it was way overpriced for what you get. When we arrived the first night, we were given a room out in the courtyard and as it was around 8pm (dinner time) all we could hear for the next 3 hours were the clashing of dinner plates coming from the kitchen which was across the... more

Almost ten years ago, whilst visiting Ireland on a summer vacation, I had one of the most memorable meals of my life at Ballymaloe House, and was delighted when an opportunity arose to visit the establishment again for a special occasion. The grounds of Ballymaloe are as lovely as ever, the receptionists were pleasant and helpful, but I was so... more
