Very fine place. Cabin is very comfortable and straddles a creek. Plenty of good food. Friendly social atmosphere. Rocket is very helpful and a great host. Kitchen to cook in, microwave, pizza oven. Warm shower. We've made a point of going there 3 years in a row. "I'll be back."

I stayed here when I thru-hiked in 2012. I never got a round to posting a review, but I saw the negative review from hikingman, and I had to chime in. First of all, this is a hostel! This is NOT the Hilton or Hampton! If you're a true hiker, and a thru-hiker at that, this is an oasis. It's... More

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at SBH. The caretaker, Rocket, was welcoming, helpful, showed us around, created a community spirit, which is so important for the quality of the traveling experience. We and other fellow travelers gathered with Rocket in the "kitchen" to chat late into the night. The night was quiet and peaceful, despite a prolonged visit from a bear... More

Standing Bear farms is awesome! I went there to get one night sleep and a shower, but ended up staying four nights. I met so many awesomely wonderful people that came off the AT while I was there. I made lifelong connections. Standing Bear has everything you could possibly need whether you are camping, hiking, or just need a getaway.... More

I stayed here for four nights when I was backpacking around the States. It was just what I wanted - a simple place with real rustic charm, in a beautiful setting. Maria and Curtis are lovely people who really made me feel at home.

A great place to get away, especially from PEOPLE, who don't appreciate the beautiful, rustic surroundings. It wasn't meant to be a 5 star Hilton experience!? It's a hostile with a place to get a hot shower, hot meal, meet great friends and chillax! Curtis and Maria are very accommodating and friendly. Rocket, one of a kind guy who is... More

This is one of my favorite places to go! It's a beautiful and peaceful place to get away from everything and spend some time at a rustic place in the woods. The owners are both great people to get to know and they have always been really good to me and everyone I've seen come through. Rocket is quite the... More

We where very worn out hiking all day and where desperate for a night rest. We did not get it. Everybody was doped out and very drunk and loud. The owner was a rude drunk named Curtis and was very rude to my wife and kids and my friends. The out house was running down hill to the eating and... More
