This was the second time we chose to hang our hat for the night at this Fairfield by Marriott when traveling through Chattanooga on I-75 on our way to FL. Last time was a few years back. Not much had changed other than Covid restrictions and that is good. They appear to us to be making an erstwhile effort to remain consistent in their effort to offer a clean and safe stay at a fair price. Nice King suite cost us $108.66 total with taxes. For that we will reward them and continue to stay with them at their convenient location off I-75 on future driving vacations south.

Free breakfast is still just grab and go packaged food items over 1 year after Covid. Bummer but better than nothing.
Several nearby restaurants choices. We'd recommend Champy's or Cracker Barrel.

We stopped for the night on a drive back to Florida. We found this Fairfield clean, comfy and quiet. The quoted rate on Booking.com was incorrectly priced too high. I called the facility and they matched the lower published price. Fairfield’s offer a consistently clean comfortable stay.

We stayed here for a quick getaway to close out the winter holidays. We drove through pouring rain and intense traffic and were pleased to find the lobby warm with an electronic fireplace. The staff was welcoming and even offered us umbrellas so we could stay dry as we unloaded the car. The property was clean and modern. The staff was polite and very knowledgeable about the area. There was fresh coffee during the evening along with assorted cookies. The room was spacious and neatly furnished.

This was my third stay at this hotel — it’s a convenient stopping point on a road trip between Florida and the Midwest. This is was also my last stay.

The hotel is aging. My bed was lumpy and the room is in need of refreshing.

But the worst was my interaction with staff. No one was particularly helpful or friendly. When I checked in during a heat wave the outdoor temperature was 104 degrees. The air conditioning in my room was turned off and the room thermostat said 89 degrees. It was the better part of two hours before the room was tolerable.

The worst part was the next morning. The shower had no hot water. I was in a rush to get back on the road and took an unpleasant cold shower. While getting dressed I called the front desk to complain and spoke with Clyde. Clyde essentially blamed me. After a ten hour drive and wanting nothing more than to nap — he said I should’ve called the front desk upon checking in to ask for another room. And as to the shower — he offered to come up and fix it right then. Alternatively he said I should’ve called before showering and they would’ve sent someone to repair it.

This is not a resort hotel. It is a moderately priced hotel on an interstate Highway where people stay briefly while on road trips. Clyde would like to shift the responsibility for maintenance to me. He is essentially stating that their housekeepers and maintenance staff don’t have to keep the room in good repair before a guest arrives. Instead they’re happy to fix things after a guest reports it.

If the room were maintained properly — anyone cleaning it would have noticed no hot water and turned off a/c (unless the hotel chose to save money on a/c by turning it off before guests arrive). On a road trip I want a basic hotel room in good repair. I didn’t receive that and I feel Clyde tried to blame me without recognizing that the hotel should have done a better job.

In a place like Chattanooga there are many better places to stay and that is what I will do in the future.

Response from Mark Hart, General Manager at Fairfield Inn & Suites Chattanooga South/East Ridge
Responded Jun 28, 2022
Please accept my apologies for your recent experience at our property. The AC being set too high or turned off on a hot day is an issue that we have addressed. We had no other reports of hot water issues the morning that you checked out and all of our boilers were working properly. It was thought that perhaps the cartridge that mixes the hot and cold water might have caused the issue and we would have been able to have that corrected for you pretty quickly. You are correct about the property needing to be refreshed and I am pleased to be able to tell you that we will soon begin a complete renovation that will bring our property up to the same standards as the new Fairfield hotels being built this year. I hope that you will give us another opportunity to serve you better and if you choose to, I will be happy to apply a discount to your rate to try to make up for your last visit.

Had an 8.9 rating on one site. Stay was awful. Writing this review to help others with real story. Cannot believe Marriott even associates with this hotel. Our room was supposedly newly remodeled but was still old looking and crappy. When we first came in it had a strange smell like they were trying to cover up something. M wife is severely allergic to cigarette smoke. When you closed the bathroom door it wreaked of cigarette smoke and my wife had to take her inhaler every two hours just to breathe. There were small little bugs in bathroom and to top it off it did not tell you on site that they allow pets. We asked for pet free room when we found out and they said they let pets in all rooms. Well my wife is also allergic to certain dogs and cats. Worst part was late at night when we were sleeping we heard dogs coming in and out barking. The walls are paper thin. Heard furniture being move and doors slamming after 4:00 am and couldn’t sleep. Will never stay here again. Was advertised as smoke free. Breakfast was average. Served old cake instead of danish or donuts, hot breakfast not good. Bathroom tub and shower head great. Beds average. We’ve been to 83 countries and worst Marriott we’ve been in. Never had problems with Marriott before. Will never stay here.

Writing this with hopes management sees it and offers a solution: My parents (in their 80's) had a room booked for Feb. 24th at this hotel for a cross-country drive. They were delayed by weather on day 1 and called this location directly to cancel (and did so within the cancellation window.) They noticed a few days later they were charged anyway. We have called this location for resolution, and we have escalated to customer service twice. Customer service can see where my Dad called in (notes are in their system saying he called in to "cxl"), but the front desk person never executed the cancellation. I can call the credit card company and dispute, but Marriott should be the ones correcting the problem.

I’m sad to say that this was the worst mariott stay i’ve ever had . i booked this hotel
because it was a midway point in travel and the pool and hot tub looked like a great place to unwind after 11 hours in a car. I had to change my check in date and was able to
do so but was still charged for an upgraded room in a standard room. After 11 hours in the car with a child i wasn’t going back down to ask to be moved. I went down to check out the pool before i told my kid about it after i seen the mold in our shower and dirty floor and am thankful i did as the pool was completely disgusting . Still against better judgement i decided we could get thru anything for the night , and i woke up the next morning with a rash all over my legs. thankfully my daughter and husband didn’t have any bites/rash like i did . The front desk staff were very nice , but the facility itself not great and i hate that my very expensive standard room left a lot to be desired, a rash and non useable amenities . I will stay hilton from now on. Hope this helps the next person

Very clean hotel. Staff were great. LaLa the receptionist was so friendly and very kind
Room was good.
Only problem was the idiot guests who disregarded the hotel mask in Public places and the hotel staff did not appear to even try to enforce this requirement. Really frustrating when we are ‘old’ and doing our level best to stay healthy.

The hotel itself was in fine shape. Rooms were clean although we did not have hand soap. The fridge was unplugged (never a good sign) and after 12 hours was still not cold. Housekeeping should be more on top of these things and report to maintenance.

The food at the breakfast bar left much to be desired. The prepackaged sausage biscuits were so under cooked the dough was almost raw. Really, really bad. No one could finish theirs. The only other protein on the bar was scrambled eggs and a prepackaged spinach quiche. The standard is higher than that, even for a Fairfield and especially for Marriott.

When I reported the fridge the clerk at the front desk promised to fix it after I left. Hmmmm, really?

I feel anymore that staying at Fairfield Inn can be a crapshoot - some of the properties are kept up better than others; some have grab and go breakfast bags during COVID and some dont. But our experience at the East Ridge property was great - incredible service at check in. It appeared to me that there really was an emphasis on cleaning and COVID safety. And I was super excited to see they provided copy of local newspaper. I can't remember the las time I've seen that on the road but it was a pleasant surprise. Thanks for doing a great job

Is there a coffee pot and coffee/coffee condiments in the rooms?

Yes. I believe there is enough in the room to make two cups each of both decaf and regular coffee. They also have unlimited coffee in the lobby.
