Half a dozen of us dropped in on the off chance after walking over Cat Bells (again). Really friendly welcome despite our appearance and mucky boots, excellent tea and gallons of it, homemade biscuits and tea-bread at very reasonable cost. Particularly impressed by the quiet strength of the lady who delivered the tea tray.

Stayed for weekend just after Christmas and was impressed by rooms, dining area and of course location. Close to Keswick and busier road through Borrowdale this Hotel has a very tranquil atmosphere. Staff were in general very very helpful, food was very good and has an interesting and large wine list. In general it does seem to appeal to older... More

We have returned from a fabulous Christmas stay. The food was devine, and freshly prepared, and well presented. The whole dining experience was made perfect by the helpful and friendly Waiters/Waitresses, nothing was too much trouble.(Especially Thai and the young Mum To Be) And to top this, we had the beautiful Harp music played wonderfully by a lady, who obviously... I think we've finally found our most favourite place to stay out of a number of lovely places in this most beautiful place in the lakes. The staff are courteous, highly competent and very civil with gracious and lovely manners. The hotel is elegant, tastefully furnished, very spacious and set in the most picturesque setting, away from the main drag... More

I recently booked a single night in the Borrowdale Gates hotel. From the moment of my arrival to leaving the next morning I had nothing but an excellent experience. I was warmly welcomed at check-in, shown to my room and offered complimentary tea in the lounge. I was eating elsewhere that evening but on my return I used the bar,... More

Long detour due to flooded footpaths led to this hotel. Just wanted coffee and sandwiches but was warmly welcomed by staff despite our bedraggled appearance .treated like royalty. A blissful hour in warm surroundings. Sadly had to leave to continue our walk. Next time will definitely take advantage of accommodation and restaurant at this very good hotel who know how... More

Borrowdale Gates hotel was just the kind of place I had imagined for a Lake District holiday. It is away from the towns and villages so very tranquil. Right at the edge of forest and hills so a pleasure to sit in the balcony in the evening. The dining hall overlooks fields and you can see birds feeding at the... More

This was our second visit to this hotel, the first being several years ago. In the intervening time the guest bedrooms have been updated, while the reception rooms are largely unchanged and as comfortable and traditional as ever. We arrived in mid afternoon, in time to be able to walk down Derwent Water which was looking its best with the... More

We have just returned from a weekend stay at the Borrowdale Gates. This was our first visit and we will definitely return again. From the moment we arrived the staff were very welcoming, attentive and polite. The room was a family room which was very clean and modern especially the bathroom which had large whIte fluffy towels and an excellent... More

We have just spent a wonderful, relaxing 4 days at this hotel with our dog. We were on a hiking break and the hotel location is perfect to walk out onto the fells and leave the car at the hotel! The views from the hotel are, as a result, outstanding. Our room was comfortable, bed very comfortable, and the communal... More
