This was my third time in the DAKOTA PINES INN. Like always, it was just perfect! The room, the pool-area, the desk and breakfast-room (like the entire motel komplex)are clean and well cared. The rooms got just renovate. The motel owners and staff are very friendly, helpful, and obliging. Although beside a busy road (Wallmart, Minigolf and many restaurants nearby),... more

We were just passing through on our way elsewhere and needed an overnight place. After finding a discount coupon for this place in a travel magazine at a rest area, we decided to give it a try. We understood it would be low budget, but it did not have to be so DIRTY AND UNKEPT. We did not eat the... more

A very nice hotel. It isn't a resort but nice just the same. They have an inside pool and two hot tubs. The pool is really kinda small but inside. The service was great. Very nice and especially reasonably priced. It is across the street from Walmart, Sams, and Golden Coral. Nothing really negative to report. more

We made changes to our itinerary at the last minute and needed a place to stay in Rapid City--After several phone calls Dakota Pines gave us a good deal and turned out to be the biggest room and best place we stayed while traveling around the Black Hills/Mount Rushmore area! The room and bath were spotless, and a great deal... more

The Dakota Pines is a good hotel in the Rapid City area. We stayed there one night before seeing Mt. Rushmore. The hotel is average but a good value for the area. It was clean but a little older. A good place to stay for a night. more

We spent one night here recently. The room was OK, but even though it was non smoking (and all the rooms around it had "non smoking" on the doors too), it smelled like smoke. We didn't notice it right away...but half way through the night I woke up with a headache and noticed a faint smell of smoke. Maybe it... more

Motel recently changed hands - was formerly the Thunderbird Lodge. It is located at a busy intersection with lots of motorcycle noise and an occasional ambulance. Kids love to run up and down the hall. Complimentary breakfast is cereal, juice, coffee, and bread. Clerk was very helpful. It should be much nicer for the price! more

We received a phone call just a couple days before leaving for our recent vacation that Thunderbird Lodge in Rapid City was under new ownership and is now called Dakota Pines. The caller was courteous and assured us the only thing that changed was the name (and they were no longer serving English Waffles at Breakfast). I don't know how... more

Out family of 5 stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in late September. We booked two rooms & found it to be clean & well located. The kids enjoyed the pool and the complimentary internet access in the foyer was a godsend. According to the motel manager we were travelling during 'senior season' and we noticed. The breakfast room... more
