We did not stay in the cabins. We used the campground as our base for our Black Hills vacation. From our location we could see the kids in the pool, were close to the playground and walking distance to the Brule and Circle B shows. There was no cell or wi-fi service at the campground however my wife discovered cell... More

I did not stay at the ranch, unfortunately, but did drive up for the early morning trail ride. On every vacation, I try to always take a trail ride to see the country up close. This is a very well run operation. They are careful about the horse pairing with the riders, and have three guides along the ride. I... More

Went here thinking this would be a cabin where our family would feel at home. It was more like a motel room without the daily maid service. It was very small for four people with no place to eat. It came with microwave and small fridge. Only 4 plastic glasses for your whole stay and if you run out of... More

We spent a long weekend here, great cabin! (#5). We had 11 people and had more than enough room in the cabin. It was clean, well appointed and exactly as described on their site. The ranch itself is OK, pool was decent, there was a convenience store at the office, but everything was UNBELIEVABLY expensive, like $14.99 for a 6... More

We just finished a cousins' reunion at High Country Guest Ranch and recommend it highly for this sort of event. There are a number of options for accommodations and everyone was very pleased with their choices, which we reserved 2 years ago. The staff was very accommodating with bringing in extra picnic tables, wood, etc. The main comment I heard... More

I was not as impressed as I expected to be. The setting was beautiful, but the cowboy cabin I stayed in was a disappointment. The shower curtain had mold on it and the blinds in the only window did not work and were filthy, there was not enough (barely any) light over the sink/mirror that was stuck behind the entry... Stayed at the ranch from 5/5/15 to 5/8/15 and loved every minute of it. We left a day early because of an unexpected 24 inch snowstorm (we had shorts with a 70 degree forecast before we left Kansas). I cannot say enough good things about this place. The ranch is peaceful and quiet with an amazing view. My wife and... More

I was looking for a place in the Black Hills to have a family gathering and rather than book multiple hotel rooms i came across the High Country Guest Ranch, McCaskell cabin. It was big enough to accommodate our group so we booked it. I had no idea at the time what the ranch had to offer. Although it was... More

As a "cowboy" cottage, we were told to expect a hotel-type facility. Admittedly, there were linens, plus a small refrigerator and microwave. Other common amenities were missing, however: closet or rod with hangers; iron and board; luggage rack or counter (some surface for a suitcase other than the bed or floor), facial tissue . . . . Air conditioner wall... More
