Plans changed one week after booking. Had booked in October for planned February trip. Was NOT told about the penalty for cancellation at the time of booking. Ranch keeps entire deposit ($200 in my case) if you cancel, unless they can rent it to someone else. Since we are booked mid-week in February we will almost certainly not have our... More

I visited High Country Guest Ranch mid-September 2015 for five days and did not want to leave. I was there for a writing retreat and rented the Sundance cabin. The cabin was situated right next to a flowing creek and had a darling porch where in the late afternoons I enjoyed a glass of wine and wrote. It was the... More

This place is a unique property. It is located about 5 miles out of Hill City. We visited in October, and it was very quiet indeed. The cabins are well made and very comfortable. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They can talk about South Dakota for some time, and they have first hand stories of this part of... More

We ended up here thanks to an online deal for a discount on half day 4 wheeler rental. We arrived bright and early, the manager ran us through the machine and we were on our way. No maps were provided--not sure any maps exist--but they do give you a GPS. We enjoyed about 3 hours on the trails and the... More

Just got back from 3 nights staying in the Trailside cabin (#9). Perfect for the hubby and I. Clean, quiet and a great home base for us to explore. BBQd dinner every night and enjoyed a camp fire too. We absolutely loved it and would stay here again. It cost less than the hotel we stayed at in Custer State... More

My son rented a cabin for his family of 6 and my wife and I. The cabin was comfortable enough with lots of hot water for showers. The kitchen was equipped with enough utensils and plates for all of us. Outside the side of the cabin was a fire ring that was a hit with the kids. They went into... More

This place was a real disappointment-- the rooms were dated, the sheets had dead flies on them, the towels were like hard handkerchiefs and the beds were awful. It was the only place on our stay that didn't include breakfast, so you had to pay $5/person for pop tarts and nasty pre-made microwave egg biscuits. It was also one of... More

We did not stay in the cabins. We used the campground as our base for our Black Hills vacation. From our location we could see the kids in the pool, were close to the playground and walking distance to the Brule and Circle B shows. There was no cell or wi-fi service at the campground however my wife discovered cell... More

I did not stay at the ranch, unfortunately, but did drive up for the early morning trail ride. On every vacation, I try to always take a trail ride to see the country up close. This is a very well run operation. They are careful about the horse pairing with the riders, and have three guides along the ride. I... More

Went here thinking this would be a cabin where our family would feel at home. It was more like a motel room without the daily maid service. It was very small for four people with no place to eat. It came with microwave and small fridge. Only 4 plastic glasses for your whole stay and if you run out of... More
