We recently stayed at Rafter "J" and stayed on the Island area of the site. The Island is well named as we felt like we had arrived at our own little island. We are a family of four with two boys (8 &10) travelling around North America for a year from the UK in our British RV. We first arrived... More

My husband and I stayed here in a 32 foot travel trailer for 5 nights in August, 2014. This is the most perfect campground we have ever stayed in, and the 'bar' by which we judged every other campground during our 5 week trip - and none of the others even came close. The campground is laid out so that... More

We stayed here in our 30ft camper for 12 nights at the beginning of a year's tour of the country. I resigned myself that we would be spending a lot of time parked in a "parking lot" with the next person's sewer line next to our picnic table. What a surprise when we arrived here! We stayed in the island... More

Cabin layout where I stayed was a semicircle of cabins, the spot closest to the main highway. My cabin, 91, I believe, was the closest cabin to the car path on the grounds. It was noisy in the morning, more than what I anticipated, none the less the campgrounds are vast and beautiful. One has the option to walk, ride... More

The Rafter J Campground is easily accessed from a main thoroughfare, yet is far enough removed to be quiet and away from the highway. It's a large, well maintained property with reasonable separation between individual camp sites. Certain of the camping loops are more suited to motorhomes, while others meet the needs of either smaller or larger towable rigs. There... More

We are adventuresome "old people" in our middle 50's who dared to tent camp at this site a week or so ago. Friendly owners. Nice site close to the showers/restrooms. Well kept lawn. Not a single bad thing ( other than our air mattress issues which certainly weren't their fault! Close to Rapid City, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Devils... More

We stayed at this park in late September with another couple in two motorhomes. We were very impressed at the size and beauty of the park. We were disappointed at the high price and lack of common ammenities for a park of this caliber. There was no cable TV, Very poor Wi-Fi, and zero security. I would not stay here... More

We stayed in one of the small cabins (no bathroom/kitchen) for 3 nights. It was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable, the main bathroom facilities were spotless, the pool and hot tub were amazing. We loved the pancake breakfast. The setting is gorgeous and close to all of the main tourist attractions. We will definitely book here again if... More

Rafter J is perfectly situated to serve as a base for visiting all of the major sites in the Black Hills area. Very handy to Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Needles Hwy., Iron Mtn. Road, Wildlife Loop and easy for day trips to Deadwood, Sturgis, Keystone (don't waste your time going there), and of course Hill City. Lovely setting with scenic views.... More

My son and I rented a cabin, and two other family member brought their campers, was a very nice campground. Pool and hot tub were warm and nice. Skip the all-you-can-eat pancakes in the morning, not so good. Family reported the showers/bathrooms were clean.
