We were so fortunate to have chosen this lovely, small hotel for our December trip to Deadwood. Snow falling outside, sipping tea in our comfortable and cozy room, filled with antiques, was everything I expected from this historic town! The accommodating staff and onsite parking were a huge plus, especially this time of year! We could not stay anywhere else... More

My wife and I come to deadwood almost every winter. The Martin and Mason so far is our favorite place we have stayed. The room we stayed in, 2 Lucy Ann, was perfect for a couple on our anniversary. The king 4 post bed was amazingly comfortable, and clean. The light from the hall at night was minimal. The bathroom... More

We stayed there with another couple for one night. The rooms were unique and very cool. Every person we had interaction with on the staff was exceptionally friendly. From the cleaning lady to the owner, they were glad to stop and talk about the history of the place. The beds were extremely comfortable as well.

...but a fine hotel. Nice example of historical renovation. Room was clean, bed comfortable, and loved the idea of scones and coffee presented outside the door in the morning. Finding the hotel can be a challenge--go into the Wooden Nickle Casino. Before checking in, you pretty much have to park at a meter, unless you make some prior arrangement with... More

Thanks so much for the nice review! We are very proud of our historic renovation at the Martin & Mason and it is pleasing that others understand our efforts also. I would like to address your confusion to parking at the hotel. We have seven entrances to the hotel check in, which is in the cage and clearly marked "HOTEL".... More

To be fair, we decided that the town of Deadwood was really "not our cup of tea". If you enjoy gambling, casinos and tacky gift shops, by all means enjoy! After visiting Rapid City and all the sites, I was really looking forward to staying at this historic inn. We parked in front of the hotel, walked into a casino... More

Thank you for the review. We are sorry that Deadwood was "not your cup of tea". It is important for us all to understand and appreciate, that if it were not for Deadwood and South Dakota Historic Preservation and Americans who love the history of our country, Deadwood would be a ghost town today. Twenty-five years ago they found a... More

My husband and I, and 2 other couples stayed in Deadwood as a centralized location to ride motorcycles around the Black Hills in mid Sept.! The Martin Mason Hotel along with its neighbor, the Iron Horse Hotel were a perfect place to stay! They are very historic and fit into the nostalgia of Deadwood! Besides being a charming hotel, it... My wife and I just returned from a wonderful trip to South Dakota. The weather was great, the scenery was unbelievable and the history remarkable. Our last stop was Deadwood. We had read all the Wild West stories and didn’t want to stay in a cookie-cutter hotel. We wanted one with a period look and feel. We wanted a hotel... More

This is a place of conflicting impressions - much like Deadwood itself in many ways. You enter through a small door into the casino and checkin at the casino desk - which is actually the checkin desk for 2 hotels. the desk people were both very friendly and helpful (checkin) and completely slow and clueless (checkout). be sure to review... My wife and I stayed here at this cool little hotel in Deadwood during the bike rally! It really is like stepping back in time. The furnishings, except for the beds of course are like being in Deadwood back in 1870's. The service was good, people there extremely nice and helpful, especially Melanie the owner. Scones and coffee just outside... More
