I grew up in South Dakota and now live in Scottsdale, AZ. Every year I try to get back to the Black Hills for a vacation. Over the past several trips, I have stayed at the First Gold in Deadwood. I love this place. Though I have small children now, my wife and I still have a great time when... more

Talk about making you feel at home...First Gold does just that and more! We arrived late, but the greeting at the front desk eased my nerves after a long day on the road. We checked in, were given a parking pass to the covered parking garage (which was fantastic, since it was raining) and escorted to the new addition, where... more

After just spending a week at The Murray Hotel(LOVED IT!!) in Livingston, MT; I have to say First Gold was underwhelming, at best. Located at the far end of Deadwood, the parking lot was smallish and could prove a bit frustrating to find a parking space. The trolley that runs back and forth to Main Street does not pick you... more

Just returned from stay in Deadwood SD. First Gold is about 10 minute walk from downtown. Trolley runs all day and into the night but does not stop at First Gold. Nearest trolley stop is a couple of blocks in front of Cadillac Jacks. Although we did have one trolley driver that would drop us off at the hotel but... more

We have stayed at all the major Deadwood Hotels, and they are nice. First Gold is different. They know their visitors well. We stayed in building three. And while it is far from the main casino, they have shuttles running all the time. We walked because we need the exercise! Their casino offers free drinks and snacks; they are always... more

This is without question the popular hotel with the bus tour crowd. At breakfast, i was easily (at 40) the youngest person of the 40-50 people in the room. This senior-heavy crowd can create a few problems, but at least they are quiet! I stayed in building three--these rooms are clearly new and reasonably nice (although the lack of a... more

We stayed at First Gold for a bus trip for Superbowl weekend. We stayed in the main building of the hotel. We like the convenience of the main building but the way the bathroom sink is around the corner from the rest of the bathroom is an odd design aspect. The rooms are pretty large and quite clean. Ours faced... more

We stayed at this hotel as part of a bus tour. The hotel is located at one end of downtown Deadwood. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to downtown, where the restaurants, bars, shops, and casinos are. The hotel is built off of a hill, so views from the hotel windows can vary. There are also multiple buildings associated... more

This ersatz addition to Deadwood lodging has pros and cons. On the bright side, there is great lighting over the bed, free wifi and cute touches of decor like the vintage western movie poster and tiffany style table lamp. The bed was good and all the bathroom fixtures worked well --since the place is new there are no surprises there.... more
