We have been staying at the Thunder Cove Motel for many years during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We have also stayed at the First Gold, Gulches of Fun and rented a private home in Deadwood, also on Cliff Street but Thunder Cove is our favorite. The new owner, Sharla and her husband were very accommodating and friendly. We had our... More

We stay every year for the Sturgis Rally. Since it has been sold it sucks bigtime. The front desk girl had no idea what the hell was going on or what to do. They left frozen donuts out, no WiFi, the manager (if you want to call him that) was constantly walking around all of us smoking like a chimney... More

Went to 2015 Sturgis rally and had a great stay here. Was an old fashioned "Mom & Pop" motel. We had real keys instead of slide cards! The manager Sharla was the nicest sweetest person. Service here was great. I would rather stay here than chain hotels.

We stayed 2 nights in July. The bed was very comfortable and was not against the wall. The room had a fridg and microwave which no other motel in Deadwood has. The fridge was great as we always take our own water. It was clean. Lots of traffic so next time we will stay on the back side of the... More

We stayed at the suites right next door. We rented the top level plus the bottom levels. We were pretty happy about a majority of our visit. It slept 10 easy enough and had enough space on the kitchen level for us to all talk about our adventure planning for the day. Our only gripes were that we couldn't figure... More

Positive: large room with big fridge which is very useful if you want to get your own breakfast in the room and since you are far away from Deadwood town and Lead. No much noise even though our room was facing the main road. Negative: food store is in Lead. No elevator. Complimentary breakfast was offered in the main building.

Friends of ours stayed here, it was a last minute decision to join us, and the Deadwood Gulch where we were staying had no available rooms, so to be close they got a room and Thunder Cove, rather than going to another town. We went with them to help them bring their stuff in the hotel, and the smell when... More

Sorry your experience was less than desirable. Not sure what you are talking about with Motel 6, there isn't one in this town. Thank you for letting us know your thoughts and we will be doing a makeover on the property, we just bought it in April and it didn't leave anytime to change things. Thank you More

There is not someone at the front desk all night, their front desk closes at 10pm, we were traveling back from Yellowstone National Park and had been on the road for 12 hours, Deadwood was our stop for the night before getting on the road. We were hoping to be to Deadwood by 10pm, but traffic and travel did not... More

Sorry for your bad experience. You should have been told the office hours when you made the reservation. You are correct on the rates, ours are normally less than $100 and always the best rates in town. We do run limited office hours and that is why we can offer better rates. If we had our desk covered 24 hrs... More

The gal at the desk was sweet. She had no idea what she was doing though. She had two hours of training before she was left with the desk. The room however, smelled funny. On a scale of one to ten for cleanliness it was a four at best. The floors in the bathroom had the same hair in them... More

The Thunder Cove is an excellent hotel for the price. The staff is extremely helpful and the rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable. Several of our family stayed in the hotel for a reunion in the area and we all loved it. The hotel is within walking distance of a restaurant but somewhat removed from the chaos of the casinos...
