My wife and I stayed in one of the cabins in Pine Key over the July 4th weekend (2014) and loved it. The area is quiet and natural. It is also a good location as a jumping off point to other places in the low country (Charleston, Beaufort, Hilton Head and Savannah). Our cabin was dog friendly too.

Palm Key is the most relaxing place to visit. You will defiantly feel rejuvenated after a couple days at Palm Key. The views are beautiful and the cottages are spacious with every comfort of home. There are no TV’s in the cottages so you get to develop strong bonds with Family and loved ones. Enjoy the great outdoors while you... More

If you are looking to get away and relax, Palm Key is the perfect place. The views are amazing and there are dozens of birds to watch all day along the marsh. Judy and Em provide plenty of friendly tips and advice and can arrange for kayaking and other activities if you wish. But if you simply want someone comfortable... More

We stayed here as part of a Road Scholar kayaking program and were so delighted with the accommodations that I am anxious to return. This is not a hotel experience; rather a vacation rental type. The cottages have full kitchens, private bedrooms with private baths (1 - 5 bedrooms). Large living/dining areas. Most have washer/dryer. No TV or radio, but... More

We stayed at Palm Key for a long Thanksgiving weekend. Our cottage on the water was quiet and spacious. The scenery was beautiful. Thanksgiving dinner was delicious and festive. Historic towns and shopping are all only a short distance away. Plenty to do at Palm Key with hiking, fishing, kayaking. Judy and Em are great. Would diffently recommend and go... More

We stayed at Palm Key while having a house built in the area. It is truly a unique environment where you can relax and commune with Nature. There are a number of fully equipped cottages that you can rent by the day, week, etc. with or without a food plan. Walk the nature trails, fish in the small lake, Kayak... More

We want to live there. Judy and Em are such nice people and what a dream they had and still have since 1985. They really care about the environment in a common sense sort of way. All the rental houses look great (we went in 4 or 5 of them just to see). Kyaking was amazing and quiet and beautiful.... More

My husband and I recently spent five nights at Palm Key. It was terrific! Our cottage on the water was large, well-equipped, quiet, and comfortable. Judy's breakfasts were awesome. We were surrounded by bird sounds (including a Great Horned Owl every evening), and greeted by a marvelous sunrise over the water every morning. We used Palm Key as a base... More

This is our second time at Palm Key, and we didn't want to leave. Judy and Em are delightful hosts, and helpful in every way. The cottage we stayed in was adorable and spotless. We took a kayaking trip every day, and some short jaunts on our bicycle as well. Definitely intend to come back.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Palm Key is a hidden gem of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Located an hour each from Hilton Head Island, Charleston, Beaufort and Savannah, this 350 acre retreat is southern living at its most genuine. Beautifully appointed cottages look out over the woods or the salt marsh, and are outfitted with their own kitchens, laundry facilities and porches to relax on. Each bedroom has 2 queen size beds and a private bathroom. Professional guides on-site offer kayak, birding and walking tours. Great fishing in the salt water backyard, or in the stocked fresh water pond that is the center of the community. Palm Key is also dedicated to the arts, and the talented, dynamic on-site artists lead workshops in their respective crafts. Guests are also welcome to explore on their own, to walk the oyster shell labyrinth or visit the nearby Civil War railroad. Wholesome and healthy food is served family-style in the dining area, or delivered to cottages. Judy and Em have been the owners and operators since 1985 and maintain their dedication to nature, the arts, and wellness. Every stay is individualized to what you want to see, do and eat. Palm Key is unlike anywhere else and practically guarantees a really relaxing stay, be it for a few hours or a lifetime. ... more   less
