By far the best backpackers we stayed in down the east coast. Quiet, civilised, breakfast included, and a great location. Nice rooms and great feel. Totally loved it. Staying here and strolling into central Charleston was a highlight - though note that it is a decent walk.

We stayed in a private room (India) which was pleasantly decorated and wasn't noisy at night. Great little kitchen area adjacent to the room and the building had plenty of charm. Wifi reached the whole property and there was lots of parking space.

This was my first staying at a hostel, so I was quite nervous but the NotSo Hostel turned out to be a great experience! First, the location is great - only a ten minute walk from King Street. The dorm room (I stayed in the biggest dorm: Andrew Adams) was clean and follow travelers were extremely considerate. The bathrooms were... More

Charleston is a pricey place to stay, and the NotSo Hostel makes for a good choice if you're budgeting (or want to spend your money on food and cocktails). I didn't think this was in a dodgy part of town -- we both felt safe walking around. Pretty standard hostel set-up, though it didn't seem like travellers were talking to... More

I have stayed in many hostels in my life all over the world and this has been the worst by far! The staff was nice and that was the only good thing. The bad: This is a very sketchy neighborhood . The hostel promotes having wifi but their signal doesn't reach the rooms and our room was next to the... More

So, it's a hostel which means it is not as luxurious as a hotel room BUT it's much cheaper than the hotels in the area and it's clean, provides breakfast and the opportunity to meet other adventurous hostel stayers! They give you sheets and towels. There is also an assortment of toiletries left from previous hostelers/potentially provided by NotSo Hostel.... More

My husband and I were on a trip to visit family over Thanksgiving near Atlanta and decided to extend our trip to include visits to Charleston and Savannah. Since we were on a budget we chose NotSo Hostel based on research, its location and rates. It was very spartan but we expected that. We stayed in the Kingsolver Room in... More

Thank you for your review. I believe the staff said we would pay for your car towing assuming that it was someone in our company that had towed your car on accident. When we looked into it further, we found that you parked in a private lot next to the hostel in front of a large mounted white sign that... More

I stayed in the upstairs dorm in the main building which I found excellent. I did hear murmurs of discontent from the larger more-crowded ground floor dorm. The hostel has an amazing social area, two extra clean kitchens, a lovely porch, great free breakfast and WiFi and some very helpful members of staff. Most likely, in my Top 5 Hostels... More

I traveled to Charleston to attend trials for the Charleston Battery soccer squad. I really enjoy staying in hostels. I've stayed in a few hostels while traveling through Europe and I have never stayed in a hostel as great as this one. The hostel was close to everything. The dorms and showers were better than any of the other hostels... More

I was on a 3-week trip down the east coast september-october with my husband. We stayed in many places (hostels & motels) and this one was definitely the biggest letdown, although it did have some upsides. First of all, it is the only hostel available in Charleston, so if you're looking for a budget option, Notso is the place to... More

Thank you for your review. I'm not sure we could be that much cheaper- we offer free breakfast, internet, wifi, linens, free laundry and private parking. To camp at James Island county park is $25/night and that is 5 miles outside of downtown and has no water or electricity. We have four four person dorm rooms which are very spacious... More
