This hostel was cheap and within walking distance to the attractions in Charleston, or you can catch a trolley nearby. It was easy to meet other travellers here. Breakfast was provided: toast, fruit, tea and coffee. Check in is between 5-10pm and I arrived at 2pm so there was a note left for me with instructions - I never actually... More

Thank you for your review. As I have mentioned in several past reviews, there is staff that live on site at both locations. Your early arrival packet has phone numbers (and a free phone in the lobby to use) and your receipt lists the after hours number, so you did receive the information;) There was nothing we could do about... I stayed here two nights, very cozy and the staff was fantastic! Lots of Jack Kerouac travelers from all over the world. The place is very clean and elegant. Close to the heart of downtown Charleston. Thank you and hope to stay again here soon!

Thank you so much for your review! We find that most of our guests love the hostel but are rarely the ones that review us online, so we very much appreciate it. We hope you'll come and visit us again soon! More

Like I said, if you're VERY stuck for affordable charleston accommodation, then stay here. Otherwise, look elsewhere. My friend & I had prebooked for 2 nights here as we were on a budget. Our first time in America, had travelled from Ireland, first time renting a car here, had a somewhat traumatic drive from Atlanta that resulted in us having... More

Ah yes, I remember you two! You rented a car from Atlanta, got tired on the way to Charleston and stayed in a hotel in Georgia. Then you were upset that we didn't refund you for the night that you didn't show. We are a small hostel and were holding the room for you and turning other guests away that... More

My husband and I are both in our early thirties. We decided to book the private Austria room at the main location after realizing that our price range would not permit us to stay at a hotel in Charleston. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Beds were decently comfortable, AC kept room cool even though it was not adjustable, bathrooms were... More

We were staying in town for a friend's wedding, and given that most SC hotels are more than $150 a night, this was the best option, financially speaking. But boy, if we were looking for a place that accommodated pre-wedding primping, we were sorely mistaken. 2 power outages while we were there meant unreliably hot (or even working) showers. On... Thank you for your review! The staff is always accessible by phone should you need anything during your stay as stated in your confirmation and pre-check in emails as well as on your receipt. As you can see from our reviews, backpackers and hostelers love our hostel for all the right reasons, one of them may not necessarily be that... More

We stayed at the Notso Hostel over the weekend for a quick weekend getaway. We stayed in the public dorms and had a great time. If you're looking for a 5 star hotel you are looking in the wrong place. The Notso Hostel is an alternative place to stay while traveling. Reservations were easy to make. They were quick and... I stayed at the NotSo Hostel for five nights at end of April/beginning of May and found my stay pleasant. It is cosy, cabin-like. Loved to be in the building in the backyard, the confederate jasmin covering the front porch, and the porch area with a swing and a table. Sat out there on several evenings and just exhaled and... Thank you for your review! During the morning shift the staff has a cell phone on them at all times if they are not at the desk. The staff is most likely cleaning rooms, doing laundry, or helping guests in the middle house or in the back renting bikes. We have a large framed sign on our desk stating that... More

I've stayed in hostels around the US for three months now and when I compare this one is average. Price is average, rooms are average. Not bad, not very good. Just okay. Matrasses are weird plastic, reminds me of jail or something. Breakfast turns out to be at 9 on the weekends, wow that's late. Also it says that there's... More

Thank you for your review, our free breakfast is from 9-10 and for some, it's too early and for some it's too late, however we've found it's a good in between for our guests. More

We expected more. The person who checked us in was not particularly friendly. She handed us sheets that were quite thin and I was not 100% convinced they had been washed. She noted that breakfast was at 8am. On both days we left after 8am and there was no breakfast to be seen. The staff person was just arriving at... More

Thank you for your review and I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. We have it stated in four different places that breakfast is at 8:30, on the confirmation email you received, your check in email, on the welcome letter on your bed and it is also on a large chalkboard in the staff kitchen. I was in Charleston couple of days and I stayed here. Friendly staff work here, great breakfast with bagel, muffins, cream cheese, peanut butter, coffee and tea. Perfect location 30-40 min walk to Downtown, with walking also explore hidden Charleston streets. Towel rental is $1. They also rent out bikes which is a great way to explore Charleston. They have...
