We expected more. The person who checked us in was not particularly friendly. She handed us sheets that were quite thin and I was not 100% convinced they had been washed. She noted that breakfast was at 8am. On both days we left after 8am and there was no breakfast to be seen. The staff person was just arriving at... More

Thank you for your review and I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. We have it stated in four different places that breakfast is at 8:30, on the confirmation email you received, your check in email, on the welcome letter on your bed and it is also on a large chalkboard in the staff kitchen. We pride ourselves on... More

I was in Charleston couple of days and I stayed here. Friendly staff work here, great breakfast with bagel, muffins, cream cheese, peanut butter, coffee and tea. Perfect location 30-40 min walk to Downtown, with walking also explore hidden Charleston streets. Towel rental is $1. They also rent out bikes which is a great way to explore Charleston. They have... My fiancee and I were traveling to Charleston for a Wedding and were looking for accommodations. The Days Inn downtown was going for $210, and anything at a reasonable price was a 10 minute drive from Downtown. NotSo Hostel offered a private room for 2 nights for the cost of 1 night at a low-end hotel in the Days Inn.... More

Clean, friendly place to crash in a lovely neighbourhood. Close to tons of great food places - xiao bao biscuit being a favourite. And a nice walk to all the shops and bars downtown. Charleston is a beautiful town, and the notso hostel made my stay even better. Great customer service, helpful staff, free breakfast, what more do you need?... More

The staff was ever so friendly and helpful. My stay was complicated a bit by extremely cold overnite temperatures that caused some of the plumbing to freeze up, but not burst. The shower next to my room was the only one working that day into that nite so much traffic came my way. Even tho this was an almost unavoidable... More

Thank you for your review! What a crazy night that was, it rarely gets below freezing and we have now insulated the pipes under the house so that it won't happen again. We so appreciate your understanding and love having guests like you at the hostel. Looking forward to your next visit! More

Notso hostel, like Charleston itself, has a charming and engrossing atmosphere. The hostel itself has eclectic & interesting decor with an enviable selection of private, double and dorm rooms. Most importantly notso has friendly and helpful staff that fully appreciate the wants and needs of the hostel traveller.

One of my most enjoyable hostel/group housing experiences, having stayed all over Europe, New Zealand and South East Asia. The staff are there just enough to help guide you to your bed, a nearby restaurant and excursion the next day, and how to get around. The rest is you and the other travelers hanging out for a brief or long... More

Thank you so much Michael for your kind review:) I love talking to hostelers about running a hostel and what the hostel life entails. I've been doing it for nine years, so I'm deeply in love <3 I am so happy to hear that the hostel provided a great space for you to meet other travelers and to feel welcome.... More

Good cleanliness, central location, helpful and friendly staff. Quite communal, particular when we stayed during Thanksgiving - we each provided food and had a stonking good night with pie, singing and chat. The visitor centre is a 15 min walk away and there we signed up for a bus tour (they were so helpful there). This is an eco-friendly hostel.

Oh Thanksgiving! One of my favorite nights of the year here at the hostel. This was our 4th annual Thanksgiving potluck and this year was the best one yet. An entire kitchen full of foreigners sang the best of the 80's and 90's in a colorful if somewhat off-key wine influenced chorus which included my mom and 87 year old... More
