I would agree that the place is not the cleanest, but also not disgusting by any means. Most of the dirtiness is dust, like on the headboard of the bed or on the baseboards in the bathrooms. For what you pay, I think it's nice that you even get coffee in the AM let alone bagels and english muffins. I'm... more

After prebooking two nights, we stayed at Notso Hostel in spite of it's shortfalls. This was the dirtiest hostel I've ever come across. I'd read the previous reviews, so expected something more. I've hostelled for 40 years now, on 4 continents, so I don't think I'm all that fussy. Don't expect IYH standards!!! We chose a private room, which was ready... more

I stayed at NotSo Hostel for four nights with seven other friends. We booked one big room and had a wonderful time. Three terrific people run the place and really make the experience rich. Bring a few friends or travel alone, just make sure you meet other travelers there. We met people from all over the world, and everyone had... more

I liked NotSo Hostel. The staff was super friendly and so were the other people staying there. It's walking distance from the downtown core (a long walk but a nice one :). I was in the room with eight beds so it was a bit cheaper. It was clean - the only thing that I am uncertain about is that... more

I've been to Charleston five times since 2007, and will not consider another venue to stay at. Vikki, Brynne, and Blythe were terrific hosts and made my stay all that much better. I will defintely return hoping to take the in-house Yoga classes they offer; so awesome, btw. I anxiously await my next trip back. T.G. 2009. more

For roughly $25 a night with free wireless and breakfast, this is a no-brainer. The people who run it are very nice. The mood is relaxing. You can rent a bike for the day or just lounge in the hammock. There is a amicable parrot named Bonzai who comes out to play and Butter the Cat owns the place. The... more

This is a place that you want to meet people and still be able to get a good night rest. The dorm rooms are clean and the complimentary breakfast in the morning is just right to get the day started. It's location is close to King St( the main drag) and conveniently on a bus line. Victoria and Blythe are... more

If you choose to go to the NotSo Hostel in Charleston you shouldn’t go there only because it’s a cheap place to stay. You shouldn’t go there because of the quality either. You should go there because of both! The NotSo Hostel is packed with charm – the old buildings are kept in good shape and most of the walls... more

Shifted route East away from my intended DC destination. Good luck took me to Charleston - an awesomely charmed place. My only contact there was not 'contactable' so seeking a roof, this hostel (the only hostel in SCarolina - eventually an unnecessary cause for concern) entered my possibilities. Having called to speak with a lovely sounding staffer who said she'd... more

This hostel was particularly welcoming and intimate. The workers were very kind and easy to talk to, and the accommodations were great. The dorm had only four beds (two bunks), and everything was clean and in order. I would recommend this hostel to anyone passing through Charleston, SC. Neil Urbanski more
