On our recent stay in charleston my wife and I stayed 2 nights at kings courtyard in. The king size mattress we were on was made of stone, I believe. Neither of us slept well and it took both our backs a couple of hours after waking to loosen up (we're only 32 and 24 yrs old). We asked for... More

I was very disappointed to read of your back discomfort due to our beds. During my 35 years in the hotel business, I have learned that a person's bed preference is very personal. When we replaced beds two years ago we guest tested several different beds. The bed we chose is firm but comfortable, so much so that of our... More

This was our first visit to Charleston and Kings Courtyard Inn. Couldn't have asked for anything better! Both were terrific picks and made our vacation even better.

My husband and I spent last weekend at this hotel. It is most definitely run more like a large bed and breakfast than a hotel and is so incredibly welcoming and quiet even though it sits in the middle of Charleston. We arrived early and the front desk said that they would hold our bags until our room was ready... More

The hotel was decked in historic, classic furniture and decoration. Overall I enjoyed the room I stayed in, the bed was very comfortable and the room spacious. The only issue with it was the shower (it was either far to hot or freezing). The TV is really small and dated as well. The staff was very nice but not entirely... More

From the King's Courtyard Inn we walked all around historic downtown Charleston. We were close to restaurants and shopping. The hotel offered a choice of continental breakfast, or breakfast from the menu. Honestly, the continental breakfast was plenty of food, and the coffee was delicious. The concierge advised us about restaurants and about plantation tours and supplied us with a... More

My wife and I wanted to get away for a long weekend and stay in the Historic district of Charleston, and try to keep cost down, but at the same time still have the same experience one would have in one of the more expensive Inns in Charleston, like the French Quarter Inn. After doing a large amount of research... More

Kings Courtyard is one of the best for location. You can walk anywhere from there. Our room had floor/ceiling windows, fireplace and hardwood floors......VERY comfortable. The staff (Margaret, Tabitha, James, Nathan, Keisha...and all the rest) is so friendly and helpful. They made us feel as if making sure our vacation was the best ever was their top priority. We spent... More

The Kings Courtyard Inn is a charming, friendly Inn within comfortable walking distance of all restaurants, shopping and activities (caariage, boat, ghost tours). The continental breakfast was perfect (more is available). Wine and cheese at night provides social atmosphere (we met another couple and spent time with them (shoppoing and dinner). Do not left the lack of listed amenities distress you.... More

Thank you for taking the time to tell others of your wonderful stay with us. We pride ourselves in giving the personal service that you can only receive from a small Inn that you would not get from a big chain hotel. Thank you for appreciating the benefits of our type of accommodation. We look forward to serving you again... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Guests may also choose to order a full breakfast from the kitchen. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
