We arrived early so the concierge kept our luggage until our rooms were ready. The lobby is very quaint and thank goodness air conditioned to give relief from the heat and humidity. They also have a few courtyards that are great to sit around and hang out. Our room was nice with a lace canopy bed, original hardwood floors, and... More

I had a difficult time finding a hotel in downtown Charleston that was neither a chain nor high-priced luxury. King's finally fit the bill. The staff was informal and pleasant; the facility was clean yet had character; the location was walking distance to everything I was there for. I'm looking forward to visiting again! Only minor issue was the table... More

This one of the nicest hotels I ever stayed at. The hotel is very charming, the rooms are very nicely decorated, the beds are really great to sleep in, the airco is bliss for europeans not used to the heat and the service is perfect! On top of that the hotel is very well located, includes free coffee in the... More

We had a lovely time at the Kings Courtyard on a recent ladies trip to Charleston. The entire staff was full of Southern Hospitality. The hotel is very centrally located, with accessible parking. Each evening we enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese, relaxing in the courtyard after a busy day. However, we were a little disappointed that the white wine... More

We enjoyed our stay. Great room and a pleasant staff. Perfect location in the center of the city. We enjoyed the wine hour before going out to dinner and the glass of sherry in the evening. It was nice to have parking at a reasonable price, but because of the central location we never needed our car. Highly recommend.

Bed and Breakfast feel with all of the benefits of being a larger hotel. The beautiful inn is right on Kings street, walking distance to everything you'd want to explore in Charleston. The look and feel of the establishment is only eclipsed by the wonderful staff. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, offering advice when asked and always trying to... More

This was our second time at the Kings Courtyard Inn. Our room was lovely with a four poster bed, a fireplace (for cooler weather) and a very nice bathroom. Breakfast is served in a small dining room but you can have it delivered to your room, too. In the afternoon, there is wine and cheese and later you can stop... More

Reasonably-priced hotels in downtown Charleston are not easy to find, but Kings Courtyard was a good choice. Hidden off a brick alleyway, the old-world Southern ambiance is like being on the set of "A Streetcar Named Desire." Charming decor, comfortable rooms, and helpful desk staff made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Their restaurant recommendations were right on, and they were... More

Thank you for reviewing Kings Courtyard Inn. Charleston is a unique and beautiful city and the best way to live it is to stay and experience it first hand. Parking your car and letting our concierges recommend sites based on your personal interests, is the best way to enjoy Charleston. I am thrilled that you enjoyed our inns historic charm... More

We stayed here in May and really enjoyed the central location. We were able to walk to restaurants and our sight-seeing destinations. The front desk staff were helpful at directions and reserving us tables at restaurants. It wasn't a fancy or deluxe hotel, but comfortable. We would love to return to Charleston one day.

We stayed here for our 15th anniversary, and it was just perfect! So romantic and a wonderful location! The service was great, and we especially enjoyed the evening wine & cheese and breakfast each morning. Anthony provided us with great service during the wine & cheese reception. We also received an anniversary note and champagne as a nice surprise! :)... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1853, Kings Courtyard Inn is one of downtown Charleston, South Carolina's most historic inns. Architect Francis D. Lee designed the three-story antebellum structure in the Greek revival style with unusual Egyptian detail. The building is one of King Street's largest and oldest structures, and has had many uses during its 150 year existence. The building has housed high quality shops, private residences and at one time, the upper floors served as hotel rooms for plantation owners, shipping interests and merchant guests. Kings Courtyard Inn is located in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. Each of the rooms has an individual distinction. All rooms feature oversized beds- some have canopied beds and fireplaces. Many rooms boast excellent views of the inn's interior courtyards. All hotel guests receive complimentary sherry on arrival and a morning newspaper delivered to the room. They also receive a continental breakfast served each morning in their room, the courtyards, or in the breakfast room. Guests may also choose to order a full breakfast from the kitchen. Kings Courtyard Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches and only a block away from the City Market. Here, one may explore interesting shops or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city's many delightful restaurants. ... more   less
