OK, but definitely not a four- star Inn as AAA claims. Lots of stairs, well worn, good location, great mattress, and good parking. Victoria was extremely nice and helpful! The breakfast was good and Maurice was very attentive. Interesting stay but probably would not go back. Needs some tender loving care. more

I booked through Expedia, and the room was not what I expected - in the pictures it looks like there are fireplaces, and they're cute. We were put outside of the main house - in a back carriage building - and the rooms were pretty ordinary really. Nice, but for Charleston - such a lovely town - not great. Also... more

Just returned from a trip to Chasn where we stayed at JRH Inn. We stayed in the Carriage House and had a rate of $235/night which was a special. The hotel was totally booked so evidently is living on a past reputation. Our check in was fine with a nice young gentleman showing us to our room and moving his... more

Just returned from a stay at the JR House Inn and found it to be very pleasant. The location is convenient for exploring Charleston and the house is charming. We stayed in the carriage house, which was very clean, comfortable and roomy. Staff was efficient, friendly and helpful. We also took advantage of their "Discovering Charleston" promotion which provided us... more

This was my first time at the John Rutledge House and it won't be my last! What really stands out at this property is the wonderful staff comprised primarily of current or former College of Charleston students all of whom are eager to make your stay a pleasant one. Always available with advice and suggestions and all done with a... more

We recently stayed at the John Rutledge B&B just before New Years. First impression was nice, staff was absolutely great and helpful. Upon arriving, we were offered snacks and tea eventhough the hour was getting past their normal time. We were shown to our room, on the top floor of the main building which was okay but not what I... more

It is hard to describe a place such as the JRH. Upon arriving, we went up to the second floor and enjoyed the library. There was brandy there. I'd never had brandy before, but I tried it and it was good. With my glass of brandy, I walked over to the balcony to look at the city just as it... more

Just returned from three days at the John Rutledge Inn. It was a college roommate reunion and all four of us were delighted. Our rooms in the carriage house were lovely and the service was above and beyond. Elizabeth and Katie were wonderful at taking care of our every need. They made reservations for us, called cabs and removed a... more

Stayed here for 4 nights from October 9 through the13th. We had a room on the 3rd floor of the main house. the room was huge with a fireplace, 12 foot ceilings, 2 beds and a sitting area. Staff was great with making dining recommendations and reservations. Afternoon tea with delicious cookies and treats were served in the Ballroom each... more

My husband and I visit Charleston each year for our anniversary and do not stay in the same place twice. We may break that tradition for the John Rutledge House. We loved it and may have to come back next year. The house itself is gorgeous and located in the historic district, walking distance to everything. The staff was quite... more
