My boyfriend and I stayed at this lovely B&B for 3 nights in early May. The staff was SO pleasant and helpful. Before I was even able to check into my room (our flight arrived very early), the concierge, Mike, sent a business fax for me, secured our luggage so that we could go out and enjoy the city, gave... A few days ago, my wife and I spent three delightful days as guests at the John Rutledge House in Charleston. Our room on the second floor of the carriage house was beautifully furnished, very comfortable, and very quiet. It was the perfect place to wind down after a day of touring, antiquing, and art shopping. The breakfasts at the... More

This is a very nice hotel in a beautiful and charming setting. The location is fantastic and the experience wonderful. Very close the to Battery and shopping on King Street in a very quiet area (but within walking distance to everything). A great way to add to your Charleston experience.

One of the best places to stay in Charleston. Great location and unique, historic property. We stayed in one of the carriage houses with very nice, bedding, decor, bathroom, everything. Parking was less than 50 feet from our room. Great breakfast included that would be quite an expensive add on at other hotels.

This historic property is THE ideal location. Just off the shopping attractions of King Street, nearest hotel to the beautiful and historic "Battery" section, removed by a block from the crowds but still easily walkable to all the main attractions, this location is ideal. Staff has been there for years and is highly professional and personable. Property has an interior... More

We went here to celebrate our 40th anniversary. This is a very special place in any manner of consideration. The staff is so very courteous and each and everyone of the individuals will go out of their way to help you in any manner. The rooms are spotless, charming, and so very relaxing. The breakfasts are really so very nice,... More

I will admit that the John Rutledge was lovely and the bed dreamy, but I felt like I was in a hotel. The rooms and decor lacked the charm of a B&B. They were somewhat dog friendly, designated rooms and courtyard only. Not at High Tea and afternoon aperitif and appetizers. The receptionist were helpful, but at check in, I... More

If you want the home-away-from-home experience (provided your home is a grand lady from 256 years ago), the JRH is a fantastic choice. The concierge staff go out of their way to help tourists in all ways, which we took advantage of, from restaurant reservations to advice on the area plantations. There was always a friendly interaction on coming and... More

We spent a lovely weekend in April 2015 at the Rutledge house. There were 7 of us in four different suites and one of us had dietary constraints. The entire staff provided great service to our group throughout the weekend. And the chef was especially concerned about making full breakfasts and evening hors d'oeuvres that were delicious and fun for... More
