This was a fantastic place to stay for a girls getaway! Beautiful, historic landmark, just a block off the main drag so close, but quiet. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated with period pieces, and very clean. Our bathroom had just been renovated and was large with modern conveniences and nice finishes. The food was fantastic--we enjoyed the afternoon tea,... More

The price may seem like a splurge but after the full breakfast, afternoon tea, and nightcaps on the porch, which are all included in the price, it all just makes civilized sense. This is an historic inn with beautiful floors and handsome staircase, but the bathrooms and beds are anything but dated. Linens and mattresses are first class and the... More

As a young couple experiencing Charleston for the first time, we lucked out to discover the John Rutledge House. Not only was the house incredible, the service was fantastic! Concierge service does not get better than what Mike Jackson and Jim O’Neill provide. The room we stayed in was awesome - it tastefully blended period elements of the home's bones... More

Upon arrival in Charleston, we were absolutely blown away by where we were staying - this is incredible! The concierge, Jim, was very nice and welcoming, after we got settled in we went upstairs to enjoy some tea and snacks(complimentary of course). The key lime pie they had was one of the best I've ever had, and after we were... More

This was our first trip to Charleston and there were so many places to choose from! We narrowed our selection, and made our final decision for a couple of reasons: one was that the Rutledge offers Tempurpedic mattresses, and I had been wanting to try one, and the other was Jim, the Concierge. I don't remember why I called, but... More

For most destinations, modern facilities and location is priority. When it comes to a destination like Charleston, a historic, quality facility completes the experience. Multiply that by having the John Moultrie Suite 4 right off the entrance foyer, and it just can't be any better. The hospitality completes the historic ambience, as I haven't seen such genuine old fashioned Southern... More

I had high expectation for John Rutledge House Inn after reading loads of reviews. The booking experience was rather pleasant. I stayed at the carriage house, which was rather pretty. The room was big and the bathroom was quite nice. The carriage house was indeed more quiet. I only heard people upstairs. The breakfast presentation was nice as I had... More

This is a wonderful property. The property itself is historic and extremely spacious, comfortable and grand. The service was exceptional and the location is as good as it gets. We will not stay anywhere else in Charleston from now on.

Beautiful historic home sandwiched between the bustling market, French Quarter, and beautiful historic residential district. The staff (all staff) are warm and friendly. The concierge staff (Mike and Jim) went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed out short stay. Another enjoyment was the afternoon tea and refreshments in the drawing room. We were there over a 4th... More
