This is a “must-stay” for anyone wanting a 5-star Bed and Breakfast experience in historic Charleston. A beautiful historic home with attentive staff and delicious breakfasts. It is centrally located on Broad Street so the strolls “south of Broad” to the mansions or restaurants and bars of King Street and other areas are an easy walk.

From the fabulous breakfast in the morning to the afternoon tea with sweet and savory treats, to the brandy, port, etc. in the evening, your stay here will be memorable. A great location in Old Town Charleston within a short walk to several fine restaurants and other places of interest. It is the kind of inn experience that makes you want to go back again and again.

From the moment we arrived ( late at night!) the warm welcome to this incredible 'living museum' was wonderful. The helpfulness of all staff at all times of day, and the amazing history made it feel like you were staying in a private club. I couldn't recommend more highly!

The John Rutledge Inn personifies Charleston's " Southern Charm". From the time one books the reservations until the day of your departure the staff makes sure that every thing you need or want is in place. The location is perfect for leisurely strolls around Charleston or to one's favorite restaurant. The rooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable and quiet. Departure will be sad, but you will leave with a wealth of many wonderful memories of your time in Charleston.

Where do I begin? First, I received welcome e-mails prior to stay about parking, places to visit, etc. The concierge was so friendly and helpful when we arrived. Parking for hotel guests just around the corner. $18 fee but worth it. The Inn was within walking distance to all attractions. We had a king suite and it was exquisite! Four poster canopy bed, extremely comfortable bedding, fireplace in bedroom, marble bathroom, tons of toiletries. There was a bottle of champagne chilling in ice bucket. Complimentary for my birthday. Afternoon tea and cupcakes, sherry, cognac and brandy in evening served. All complimentary. Breakfast was amazing. There is a daily special as well as a menu you can choose from with so many assortments. You can have breakfast in your room, parlor or outside patio. We had breakfast served to us in our room. I felt like a queen for the day. Thank-you to everyone at the John Rutledge Inn for making our stay so special. We will be back!

We felt pampered the entire stay. The staff were all gracious, the service excellent, and breakfast was always delicious. The inn is quiet and we felt well rested. We are already planning to return for our anniversary next February. And the house is simply beautiful!

We had a great time at the John Rutledge Inn! It was a girls trip with two generations and I’m afraid we were very demanding (didn’t mean to be!)! We were on the top floor and kept asking for wine to be brought to our rooms. Andrew was amazing in running up and down those stairs! We asked for a “BYOB basket”(wine, cookies, cheese, etc…) to take to the Candlefish. Jim and Andrew thought we were crazy (maybe we were!) but we were the “life of the party” at the Candlefish that day with that basket! Awesome job!! Truly a great experience! Highly recommend and would do it again in a heartbeat. We even bought John Rutledge Inn Christmas ornaments and we sent each other pictures (we live in 4 different cities) of the ornament on our Christmas trees! Thank you John Rutledge Inn!! Y’all were great!!

The Rutledge House is a must-do experience in Charleston. From the gorgeous room to afternoon tea and breakfast on the piazza it was a perfect way to welcome the New Year. The staff is overly helpful and all of Charleston is steps away.
