We visit Charleston at least once a year and try to stay at different hotels around the city. This time our choice was the Francis Marion due to its great history. This is a lovely hotel with a wonderful lobby to greet you. I would recommend a deluxe room which was lovely and we actually had the opportunity to experience... More

Stayed 3 nights. The lobby is large and gorgeous and the front desk staff was very friendly. The location is central to shopping and restaurants. The room was lovely. Beds were comfortable, nice view. I would not hesitate to stay here again Three things to be aware of: Tiny, tiny bathroom When retrieving our car from valet, give yourself some... More

The lobby is very impressive and the staff was nice. I think that for the price, the rooms are average. Location however is great considering you're situated on King Street so everything is walking distance- food and shopping. It's one of those hotels you'd like to say you've been once, but my fiancé and I probably won't return unless they... More

The Francis Marion is a tired, worn old lady that is beyond repair. Too many issues to list but suffice to say, if the hotel was located anywhere else in Charleston, it would justifiably fade away. It does have a great location and the Front Desk (Sean and Bill) and housekeeping staff are all very sweet and competent. Not so... More

The lobby is impressive and the room we had was huge. It was an historic hotel that had a little bit of wear, the ceiling in the bathroom could have used a paint job. But overall it was in a great location and for the value you really couldn't beat it.

I prefer staying in historic hotel properties for their uniqueness. Francis Marion did not disappoint. Bell/Valet Staff were perfect greeters upon arrival. When I made the hotel reservation, I had requested an upper floor with a view of Marion Square for photo opportunities of The Citadel Recognition Day activities. Had reserved one king room and one double/double room that we... More

It's old, it's historic, its walls are paper thin. I could hear the neighbors brush their teeth, take a bath, talk to each other, watch tv. It's like they were in the room with me. And with no vent in the teeny tiny bathroom, there wasn't even a way to attempt to drown out the noise. Worst two nights of... More

Stayed here while touring College of Charleston with younger son. Perfect location as hotel is about a 5 minute walk to this school's visitor center and the bookstore is practically right next door. I knew before arriving that is an older hotel. I agree with others that the bathroom was small but the size of the room made up for... More

From the first moment we walked in, we were greeted at the front desk with geniune southern hospitality....the friendly, efficient, knowledgeable staff helped us check in early, suggested places for Easter services, brunch, and sightseeing activities. All excellent suggestions, especially the Magnolia restaurant for a delicious southern cuisine brunch! We had a room on the 9th floor, stylishly appointed in... More
