My husband and I just left the Hunting Island Campground this morning after a 3 night stay. We had some issues early on but ultimately just fell in love with the place. It's definitely one of those places where you need to have been there before or have some really good advice/knowledge beforehand to get the most out of your... more

We go every year to Hunting Island for Labor Day and we wouldn't miss a year unless we had. quick notes: 1. I see everyone complaining about the bugs on the campground. If it is summer time in the south..........there are bugs.................I don't understand why that would give this campground a bad review in any way. 2. If you have... more

First time we camped at Hunting Island, Sept 08, we had a great time. We had a site very close to the beach and the people that worked there were friendly. Nine months later we went back to enjoy again. That did not happen. Because of it being summer, and the park full, we had to choose a site that... more

Spent three days by myself(wife couldn't get off) at site 81 in a popup camper. Had a nice breeze off the ocean which was only a short walk away. You really can have the beach to yourself or at least a hundred feet between people if you like. It's a wonderful park and very hard to get reservations. These three... more

We were first time (Tent) campers . We had a great 7 day stay, however were initiated by the local Raccoons, who' seemed to watch us arrive at our tent site the moment we pulled in. The first night it was very windy, we stayed at site78 on loop 3, we added an extra tarp and poles to secure both... more

First time camping here, really enjoyed it. Site 63, tent area, right at beach. Great breeze! Quiet, non-crowded beach. Rangers were nice. Great view of stars at night. Saw deer and squirrels. The raccoons raided our cooler the last night. Keep things locked up good. Sites are close together, not real private. We caught a few fish off pier. Some... more

This was such a great place to stay. The breeze off the ocean is terrific and you can hear the surf at night. The stars were just tremendous and the staff/rangers were incredible. We stayed up late one night and the night ranger stopped and had a very engaging conversation with us for 30 minutes. He even called us by... more

As a kid, I camped at Hunting Island in the 70s. It was our all-time favorite vacation spot and we have spoken of it often through the years. Now that I have my own family, I have taken them there twice and look forward to our third trip there next month. Hunting Island is the idyllic family vacation. There is... more

We initially had reservations for April and because of the rain the staff changed our dates to May which is a great month to tent camp on the island. Its a little chilly at night and not too hot in the day. We had a hike in tent site which was near a marsh and plenty of mosquitoes. Insect repellent... more
