I've been coming to the Surf for more than a decade and thought I'd die when they shut down for a few years. It's come back full force and with amazing service. One compliant. The young staff parties noisily after hours on the ocean side. The extra money paid, and the fantasy of the surf lulling you to sleep, turns... More

Great to see that the Surf Hotel was reopened after so many years. My family and I spent a wonderful dinner on the porch watching the sun set. Food was good to excellent. Service was earnest. We did not stay at the hotel, so can't say anything about the rooms. Location is perfect, right on New Harbor near the ferry.

Bottom line … great place, great food. But we are a little miffed to see the polarization in the ratings here between ‘Excellent’ & ‘Terrible’. As regular weekend visitors to BI, we were delighted to see the Surf re-open. They are doing an excellent job restoring to interior to its turn of the century splendor. The additional decks outside are... More

I am actually writing this from the room at 8:30 am after a late night. The location of this hotel is great. Basically right off the ferry and right in town. It's got its own beach and pretty deck. Have not eaten here. Take warning to some things...don't stay street side a lot of noise and NO a/c to block... More

Went here for dinner with our family one evening. View was gorgeous- one of best on island, food was delicious ( all of our meals and apps) and our waiter (Rowan)was the most personal and attentive we've seen in a while! Thumbs up! We will be back.

Went the Saturday after the 4th of July. Would not go back again, would not recommend restaurant. First sat down on porch in back, which was such a beautiful view, how could we go wrong? Only two gin choices for a martini, and no olives????? They eventually did find olives. Sat down after a half hour wait (not bad at... More

Went there for lunch, and they charge my card twice, exactly same amount, same time, same date, how can any business do this, this is such unethical and unlawful behavior. be careful with your credit card, if you ever eat or stay at this place, something shady going on with this place, this is the only hotel/restaurant when you call... This was our first trip to Block Island, were looking for a fun, non-stuffy,place near the beach and were attracted to the Surf by descriptions like "unique" and "authentic". The hotel was still gearing up for the season and reopening with a new staff and computer system and doing some final construction, so we did have to endure a few... More

Last year the Cyr family allowed a manager to run the hotel, and while it was wonderful to have the hotel back after five years, there were problems, as you can read in other reviews. But this year the original family is back running it, after five years. It's a fabulous location, both in town and right on the beach.... More

Do not stay at this hotel! The Surf Hotel has to be the dirtiest place I have ever been. It's the type of place that you're scared to take you flip flops off because who knows what's growing in those floors. The restaurant... One of the staff members recommended us to go to other restaurants on the island. I think... More
