Our original plans were to drive back home (6 hours) after our ride on the strasburg railroad until we saw this place from the train and called to see if they had availability, which they did. the owner is a very nice man interested in customer service and gave us a caboose (unit 34) that had 4 bunk beds, mini... more

I have to agree with the one reviewer who did it once but never again. What do you say about a place that charges $129 a night but the room doesn't have a phone or internet access in it but does provide a "fly swatter"? The kids liked it and it's a novel idea but it was dirty and grungy.... more

I used to travel 200 nights a year when an area manager for Olan Mills, the photography people, but now it's something more like 25 nights annually. In the 1200 nights or so that I have used hotel, motel and B&B accommodations, I have probably been on about 350 properties. That being said, I truly like the Red Caboose Motel.... more

I will be honest in saying that, while sleeping in a caboose was a wonderful experience for me and (most of) my family, it wasn't without its negatives. My mother complained about the caboose throughout our 2-night stay and hasn't stopped. The rest of us enjoyed our stay and put it into the proper perspective - as has been stated... more

My husband, 4 year old son, and I stayed here from May 18 - May 25 (yes - a full week in a caboose). It was perfect. Absolutely everything we needed. We rented a minivan and drove down from RI. The week before Memorial Day was perfect - no crowds, no lines at Hershey Park, we practically had the Dining... more

My mother gave us a gift card to the Red Caboose last Christmas, after I expressed an interest in taking my kids there for a stay. Let me preface my review by saying that I am a country girl raised on a farm, so I am not a newbie to this type of atmosphere. However, if I am paying $85... more

If you're expecting the Ritz Carleton, you'll be greatly disappointed. But if you go with an open mind and just enjoy it for what it is - a caboose! - you'll be absolutely delighted. You're right in the middle of train heaven(the Strasburg RR is just down the block and the Toy Train Museum is literally right next door) and... more

We stay in the caboose motel at least twice a year, as we all love trains (my husband and the kids more than I). We have watched the motel steadily improve over the years as they began to renovate many of the old cabooses. In the winter, however, I would still recommend bringing some extra down blankets for the kids... more
