2nd stay here in past 30 days! You stay in a caboose, which has an interior retrofitted like a cabin! There are maybe 25-30 cabooses here. 1st stay, we were in the yellow NS caboose, had hot tub, bathroom with shower, back deck. This trip, in #15, the LGB caboose, which had 4 bunks and 1 double bed, tv &... more

Stay somewhere else...... These are old cabooses and train cars on disued tracks in the middle of farmland. Deal with it. The owners/management there have been nothing if not kind and helpful on our many stays there. Usually for my birthday we stay the weekend out there to do the train/amish sights in the Lancaster county area. And for years... more

Interesting to read all the previous reviews and of course makes you a bit nervous after making a reservation. But once we mentioned to our 3 kids we were staying in a caboose, they could not wait and there was no backing out. We had already planned to be in the area but the motel is a bit remote but... more

I was terribly terribly disapointed. Went to be close to Thomas the Train down the road. There was an overwhelming smell of septic from the minute we arrived. The restaurant looked dirty, I did not even go in. Our room was very dirty. The rug by the fridge was stained and moldy. The ceiling was water damaged and rotted. There... more

Red Caboose Motel has a friendly, personable "new" owner since our initial visit in 2004. Our sons, ages 9 and 4, had a great time on the carousel, browsing in the store and feeding the farm animals. We look forward to returning. It is a lovely setting -- near HersheyPark and amidst Amish country! more

The novelty and location of this place led us to stay here for one night. All I can say is that I am glad we only stayed here one night. The door didn't fit well in the door jam and so bugs, LOTS OF BUGS, were in our room. We had spider webs all over the room hanging from the... more

To those with such rude and mean comments about this wonderful place, you must be crazy! ITS A CABOOSE! You sleep in a train caboose! How awesome if that?? I am a city girl myself and with my many trips to Lancaster, I have stayed at many different hotels and motels in the area and this by far is one... more

We did not read any reviews before staying at the Red Caboose. We saw it from the train last year at a Day Out with Thomas. The kids begged us to plan a trip to stay in a caboose. We thought it would be a really nice weekend. My husband and I were VERY disappointed. The outside looks very nice.... more

I have read the reviews of others. Those speaking negatively missed the whole point of this establishment. It is not for everyone. It is quirky. But -- YOU SPEND THE NIGHT IN A CABOOSE! If you are a railfan, this cannot be topped. Comments on cleanliness, restaurant service are irrelevant -- you stay at the Red Caboose because -- YOU... more

If the kids are happy - mom and dad are always happy. We stayed in a caboose and it was great. Bunk beds, queen bed and a double - we all fit comfortably. There was a movie (finding Nemo) showing on the barn which was a great way to the end the day. The restaurant was great and even shook... more
