This was my first overnight stay at the Atherton. I loved the décor in the lobby - such lovely furnishings. It's very traditional. I loved sitting in the lobby, reading the paper and hearing the grandfather clock chime. The pictures on the website are totally accurate. The room was quiet, comfortable and clean - plenty of towels and hot water.... More

Good decent place to stay, I would say its on the lower end of a 3 star hotel. Not quite the furnishings you would expect from a newer 3 star hotel. The lobby looks nice, no pool, great location to Penn State and downtown, you have to pay for parking $8 which is not a big deal. Kinda dated but... More

I stay at the Atherton Hotel at least once per year. The staff always works to give my group a discounted rate and they are always cheerful and willing to help out their customers. The Atherton Hotel is always my first choice of the hotels to stay in in State College and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon.

I stay here fairly frequently for both business and personal reasons. I have never been disappointed with this hotel or its staff. During this most recent trip, I visited during State College's First Night event. This hotel is so convenient to everything located downtown. In addition, the bar staff at Rumors are always friendly and willing to strike up a... More

This hotel was very nice, clean and the staff was very friendly. I took my daughter to Winter Welcome at Penn State and I know I will be booking here again when I go to visit her! The Restaurant was closed but we were able to eat in the bar and the food was delicious after such a long ride.... More

We stayed every home Penn State football weekend at the Atherton Hotel. The November 28 weekend was our last weekend for the season. The Atherton Hotel and staff makes us feel more like family than guests. We enjoy eating in the dining room and Rumors Lounge. We really enjoy the entertainment in Rumors Lounge Friday and Saturday nights.Great lcation too.

This is a hotel that is older but it is up to date. It is clean. The staff friendly. The service top notch. The food is well prepared and tasty. The decor and rooms are upscale. The location is right in town. Great if you are visiting Penn State.

The good: within walking distance to downtown and to the campus, affordable rate. The staff at the front desk was very good, professional and helpful. The bad: desparately needs updating in the rooms - the bed was old, the pillows need to be replaced, the bathroom needs a major refresh, not sure the bathroom was really clean.....

We had a great weekend. We enjoyed going to Rumors Lounge the first night. The breakfast was phenomenal and a great price. The actual room was a bit overpriced, especially with the fact that we had to wait 7-10 min. each time we wanted to use the elevator. Try to get a room on a lower floor....we walked down from... Disguised by a bland stucco box exterior an extravagant second floor Victorian hotel lobby interior greets the hotel guest as the elevator door opens. A bit much for my contemporary design sensibilities, but perhaps some people's cup of tea. Rooms are quite large (with a bit less extravagant decor) however feature only double beds rather than queens (beds are also... More
