The positive - nice bed, bathtub The Negatives - for $400 a night plus tax in the middle of nowhere I expect a lot more service and comfort. Booked this hotel solely on the great recommendations, it was a mistake. This hotel is perfect for an older crowd with money to burn, its a quiet place with nice homey feel,... more

We at Carnegie House deeply regret that you did not enjoy your stay. I have spoken to each of our staff about the game day transportation so further miscommunication will not occur. Carnegie House guests have quick access to the Penn State game shuttle via a 5 minute walk to the Toftrees resort, along a winding wooded path through the...

More like a boutique hotel than a b&b--because of the verdant setting (gold course and gamelands), upscale decor, fine linens and ambience. But also a grand b&b with excellent cuisine. For breakfast, my omelet with domestic chevre was fluffy and seasoned with just the right amount of freshly ground pepper and chives, with a generous filling of creamy chevre. My... more

This was our second visit to this lovely small hotel (who says it's a B&B??) and I can't imagine staying anywhere else now that one of our sons works at Penn State. It's set amid trees in a lovely hilly area called Toftrees, convenient to everything (including phenomenal shopping for foodies at Wegman's). It's very English and Scottish in feel... more

The Carnegie House should be listed as a lovely hotel not really what you think of as a B&B. The rooms and the hotel are immaculate and lovely. You MUST have dinner there. The menus and cocktails are brought to you in the living areas, by the fire place, it is so lovely and relaxing, the food is wonderful and... more

My partner and I stayed at the Carnegie House in October. The room we stayed in was large, clean, and well appointed. As another review stated, the decor is not modern but it is very nice, not cheap nor gaudy. The Carnegie House was very quiet when we were there. We saw other couples and some families with older children... more

What an impeccably maintained hotel in such a charming location! I wish I took photographs because the photographs on the Carnegie House's website do not do the hotel justice. My favorite hotels tend to be more modern hotels; however you won't find any of those in State College. This traditionally decorated (but not gaudy) hotel is actually situated on the... more

The Carnegie House is a lovely small inn located only 5 minutes from Penn State University (if you know the shortcut, which the very pleasant staff will tell you about). I ordinarily shy away from bed and breakfast places, but the Carnegie House is not an ordinary bed and breakfast. Each room is large and has its own large bath,... more

I should have written this review earlier, but I was just thinking of how wonderful our 3 night stay was at the Carnegie House in October of 2005. It is a real English style Inn. There are nooks to relax and read, and enjoy the beautiful formal interior design of the public rooms. Our breakfast was included, huge and delicious,... more

If you are interested in above average accommodations, excellent food & service, and a good location, then the Carnegie House is for you! My husband & I visited the Carnegie House again for the 4th time. Before dinner, guests can relax with a drink by the fireplace in the huge library. Menus are brought to you & your dinner order... more
