I read Gary A. Warner’s article “Quirky Places I’d Like to Stay” from McClutchy-Tribune News Service or The Orange County Register on March 11, 2007 that was reprinted in the New Jersey Star Ledger on April 29, 2007. The travel article listed The Red Caboose Motel in PA so when the chance came for me to visit Amish country, I... More

Stayed here with my family hoping for a great experience . We thought how great for the kids to stay in a caboose . WRONG ! This place is the dirtiest place I've ever seen ! Out room had holes in the walls stuffed with toilet paper , spider webs across the walls over the beds broken outlets with holes... More

We stayed in caboose 41 with an extremely loud air conditioner and the a slanted floor. The pillows and bed were soft and I didn't sleep well. We had a nice porch with lounge chairs that we hung out on during the afternoon. On the hour we walked down to the train tracks to wave at the passing train. We... More

Stayed here for one night with three children in a small family caboose - the red one that says "Red Caboose Inn". I called before to request a newly renovated one and they were very accommodating. To be honest, I read the reviews on trip advisor before we came here and was a little apprehensive. I couldn't have been happier... More

This is a motel where each room is in an old railroad car. The rooms each have window unit air conditioners that work well but are noisy. Free Wifi is also included. The motel is located on an Amish farm and the children can watch the Amish working in the fields. They can see the Amish going up and down the... More

You'll stay here because it is different and has character - not for comfort and luxury! That said, it is appropriately priced and I'd certainly recommend it for an overnight stay. I'm not sure I would stay longer unless I had very small children who would be entertained by the 'attractions'. The cabooses are fairly small and basic and it... More

This location is unique. Stationary, antique train cars have been turned into motel rooms, and a dining car serves restaurant-quality meals. We have never stayed in the motel rooms, so I can't speak to the quality of those, but we always stop for lunch in the restaurant when we are in the area, since we enjoy the atmosphere and our... I just spent three nights at the red caboose with my husband and two children (6 & 3 years old). Here's the deal: the caboose is VERY small. It's also very dated. We had the large family caboose which had one double bed and two sets of very skinny bunk beds. The ladder was detached so we just had to... More

The whole Lancaster/Strasburg experience is wonderful. The Red Caboose Motel is unique. The kids with us truly enjoyed the caboose. The scenery is beautiful and the location is good. The breakfast on the train was good. However, we felt very cramped and needed more space in the family caboose. The bathroom was not the best. We enjoyed seeing the horse... More

This is uch a unique motel. Beautiful scenery. Friendly staff. Excellent restaurant. Our group of 7 ranged in age from 10 to 64. We enjoyed our stay in the family cabooses and would gladly stay again!
