Decided to use the Hostel on Main as break from camping. It was 'just what the doctor ordered.' Gave us a little separation from the constant train noise, a clean place to sleep and shower, and coffee in the kitchen prior to departure the next day.

The Hostel on Main has a spacious kitchen, a huge living room, and three nice bath rooms. We shared two private rooms and had a very good time and rest there. It also has a basement for you to park your bikes, and you can even wash your bikes there.

I stayed 1 night with my 3 grandsons on a GAP/C&O thru camping trip. I wanted to show them the full range of camping options available along the trail from Pittsburgh to DC. We stayed at 4 hostels, 1adironack shelter, 1 RV type campground, the Y in Cumberland and the free hiker/biker campsites.

Accommodations are excellent. Prices are very reasonable in our opinion. Experienced owners know how to anticipate needs and add some nice touches. Good food at a fair price available a few doors down at Mill Shoppes.

I passed through this little town on a cross-country bike trip in May 2015, and stayed in the hostel. It was a great experience. The hostel was clean and quiet and had plenty of interesting things in the common area. There is a washer/dryer and stocked kitchen -- plates, utensils, microwave, but no stove. Great deal and fun town. It's... More

Andrew, I am glad you found our hostel to be a pleasant experience. The bike trail (GAP) is wonderful, scenic trip from Pittsburgh to Cumberland and then on to Washington, DC by the C&O canal. It is beautiful in late September/early October with the changing of the leaves. Please come see us again soon. More

One of the only places to stay nearby, but also happens to be pretty clean and convenient. Beats sleeping in a tent if you are cycling through! There are two 6-bunk rooms that you can rent as well, if you need a little more privacy. Overall, much cheaper than a typical hotel, but you also get what you pay for... More

Matt, thank you for staying at The Hostel On Main. It is a hostel and very basic and a correction to your comment. We do supply sheets, pillowcase and pillow. There is a rental for blankets and towels. I hope you enjoyed your ride on the GAP and will visit us again soon. More

I was expecting a busy street and area with touristy traffic, bicyclists, shoppers and sightseers like a typical tourist town. Instead Rockwood is very quiet, not much there in the way of eats and accommodations, no one on the streets, occasional local traffic and lots of trains going by on a major rail corridor out back of the hostel. The... More

I am glad that you enjoyed our quaint little town of Rockwood and it's surroundings. Also that the value and quality you received for your dollar at the hostel was more than expected. The on-site bakery at Rockwood Mill Shoppes uses many homemade recipes of my mother's. On your next visit be sure to try our fresh dough pizza as... More

This hostel had everything I needed. I got off the bike trail and needed a shower, shower and laundry. They had all of this and a nice living room. The laundry worked great. I was at the hostel by myself so I can't tell you about how that would be. I could hear the person up stairs walking around but... More

this hostile was a great little fine. I have been in hundreds of hostels in Europe. Hostel on Main has got it right. clean dormitories, clean bathrooms, a great kitchen and even a pay washer and dryer. They have a storage room for bikes. they are about two blocks off of the trail....ideal. The price is also very affordable. they... More

Thank you for your response. Yes, there are trains because the GAP was built on the Western Maryland railroad bed following along the Chessie system. We hope you enjoyed your stay and will recommend us to your traveling friends. More

It's not a hotel, and as long as you remember you are paying hostel prices and not hotel prices, you will enjoy staying at this hostel. The hostel is linked to a nearby cafe which serves excellent food, although it is not open late in the evening. Noise of trains is pretty constant through the night, so light sleepers should... Thank you for your response. There are a lot of trains but the GAP was built and follows the railroads making for great scenery. Hope you can visit again. More
