This is a typical Holiday Inn - nice size room, clean, quiet, with no surprises. The major benefit of the hotel is the location, walking distance from Pitt and CMU, restaurants and museums. The free shuttle bus (3 mile radius) is is a nice perk. It's 30 yards from the hotel to the airport bus stop ($2.60 to the airport).... more
We arrived at 9pm, tired after a long drive only to find out the hotel was overbooked and we had been moved to a dump 23 minutes out of town. The fact that the Holiday Inn picked up the tab gives you an idea of how bad the new hotel was. Moreover, if I had not had a GPS unit,... more
Stayed while visiting Carnegie Mellon University. I just glanced at some other reviews and apparently there might be some type of shuttle to the school? Anyhow, I did not take the shuttle, but I did walk over to CMU and was provided excellent directions by the front desk.. I believe it's a little over 0.5 mile, but it was an... more

we stayed one night at the holiday inn university center while visiting carnegie mellon university. Got a great rate on hotwire and had a wonderful experience: room is spacious (we got upgraded to the club level), there's a free convenient shuttle to the university and shopping neighborhoods (we went to squirrel hill), complementary internet in the business center (with free... more

However, unlike many hotels in the neighborhood, it's away from the student area. Not only does this make it quieter, but also, if you want to save a... more
I was a bit sceptical having read the mix reviews but I got in around 3 PM in the afternoon. There were no football teams staying there, though there had been try outs on the weekend, soI was glad I missed that. Since I was there for only 18 hours, I requested 'Debra' at the front desk to see if... more
Traveling on a major holiday can often be trying, all of which can be made a little less so if the accommodations are comfortable and well situated. Such is the case with the Holiday Inn Select on the University of Pittsburgh campus in Oakland. We stayed for one night - Thanksgiving night - and had a mostly pleasant experience there.... more
I called the hotel the day before to confirm my reservations. I was told that everything was okay and I was "good to go". There was never mention of any issues at this time. Upon arrival, I was informed that I would not be staying on the Executive Level due to the lounge not being of use and that the... more
