Entire family including the two girls and parents were wonderful, welcoming and made you feel like family. Had been there on multiple day trips and did an overnight with my family for my daughters 18th birthday. They had a party set up for us and we danced the night away in the saloon. Great memories made there. Sad to see it closed. I wish the family all the best!!

We stayed at Malibu Dude Ranch 3 times over the course of 2018-2019 and had a wonderful experience. The staff was amazing as well as the trail rides and food, the whole place and experience had a very cozy, family feel to it. I can thank Malibu Dude Ranch for introducing my daughter to horses who now loves to ride and for making my childhood dream of riding in the woods come true. I wish we knew it was closing so we could go one last time. We wish the staff all the best, we'll always think of Malibu Dude Ranch with happy memories!

Let’s just hope that they actually sold the ranch and that the rehab/wellness center has new owners. Old owners and his parents were just awful people!!! They treated people so bad and really hurt a lot of people. They were only interested in making money. I have always believed in Karma. You reap what you sow. I just hope that the employees that really cared found new jobs

I stayed at the Malibu dude ranch several years ago. I was new to horseback riding but I was checking the place out because we were Considering having a family reunion there. They said that they cater to all levels of horseback riding experience. After only a few minutes of horseback riding I realized that this was not true The Entire time I was on the horse I was berated by the instructor. Even the other people riding horseback with us stated that he was an (Insert profanity) I never went horseback riding again because of this terrible experience, and obviously we did not hold our family reunion there!

Is now a rehab facility...locals had no idea! No more rodeos, no horse shows, no horse rentals. Closed, kaput. No advance notice, no advertisements, just closed down. Like the rich owner skunk away over the winter, after a big fanfare of how much he loved the place from his childhood and could not bear to see it closed...

My wife and I love to ride horses so we took a 2 day getaway in late April to the Malibu Dude Ranch. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The meals are eaten at larger tables with other guests and we liked that. We met a couple other families while we were there and the shared experience was a lot of fun. The activities are not structured, so its kind of up to you to explore and find what you'd like to do. There is a rifle range and times during the day that there is someone there. Horseback riding is unlimited but there are times that they take guests out. The trail rides are around an hour long and out of the 5 rides we took while we were there, not one was on the same route. All the meals are included in the price to stay, but they have a cash bar, the bullets at the rifle range costs a little and there are suggested gratuities around the ranch, so if you're going, I would suggest bringing some cash. We tipped the cowboys after every trail ride and there is a tip box in the dining room for the dining staff. Overall, we really enjoyed the getaway and we're planning our next trip back.

We spent Presidents’ day long weekend here with another family. This place is excellent, and the staff are THE BEST!! Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful and dedicated to making the guests’ visits the best they can be. It’s the opposite of a soulless commercial chain. The unlimited horseback riding was a great value. The horses were great, and the guides experienced - we all felt very comfortable despite being novices. The food was delicious. I hadn’t expected it to be good - but it was elevated country food, tasty and fresh. The bartender also made great cocktails - excellent Manhattans. The Dude Ranch feels like a place from your childhood full of memories from a simpler time. It offers a respite from hectic life in a tranquil setting. This place is a gem - don’t miss it. I’d love to visit in the summer.

This is literally my first time ever leaving a review for a hotel I've stayed at but here we go... My friend and I didn't want to get stuck in NYC for the long Presidents Day weekend, and found Malibu on Wednesday. Booked a room, found a car, set off into the mountains to arrive Saturday afternoon. The experience starts with Melissa at the front desk, who told us to make the ranch our home. This is usually some kind of pleasantry, but I always take it as a challenge. We were late arriving and when we checked in, Melissa told us she had just been dialing our number to ask if we would make it for dinner or if we needed her to save us a plate. The easiest way to my heart is through my stomach, and if in the first fifteen minutes SOMEONE was making sure I was fed, I KNEW i would be taken care of here. The food is delicious, and able to accommodate my vegetarian diet (but probably not a vegan one, FYI) with no forewarning. My friend and I are both consistent riders, who have ridden for a while even if we haven't had formal training. Chris put us on the perfect horses for our first ride, and we took a nice hour long romp around the woods in the snow. However, if you talk to Chris about what you are looking for in a horse, he can find you the right match because he knows these animals like the back of his hand. My friend likes to be challenged by a horse... I like to zone out and look at the woods while the horse figures out where to walk. Chris knew exactly who to give us and where to send us. We also went on trail rides with Jessie and a long ride up the mountain with Jen (if you say "unlimited horse rides" i'm going to make the most of "unlimited') (I would literally just sleep in the barn if it wasn't winter). Every guide was talkative and friendly, and reassuring without being condescending. It's so helpful to have someone remind you what to do rather than bark orders at you from down the line. A couple times the guides let us make our own paths through the woods (the normal trails were icy). I can't wait to return in the summer! Chris and the other employees are there to educate you and are a wealth of information. We didn't try the pool because it was generally full of kids... we went shooting with Bill and getting him to open up and talk was an incredible experience. I don't think anyone else could have taught me how to shoot, honestly! All and all, I can't wait to come back. The entire staff is incredible, and I am already dreaming of my return.

I reviewed the Malibu after my first trip that my husband and I took last July. Since then, we went back again in the summer, twice in the fall and now, are about to head back for our second trip of the winter. Its not just me; I brought my 60-something year old mother for her birthday in November and she had such a great time, that she and pack of her girlfriends are planning a trip for the Spring. My husband and I have met couples, groups of friends, families with and without kids, and there seems to have been something for everyone to enjoy. Each time we have come back has been a different experience, but each visit has been just as great as the last! We love the accommodations, the food, the horses, the scenery and absolutely adore the staff. Honestly I just can't say enough good things about the Malibu, we fall more in love with each visit. It has truly become my favorite place to go unplug, relax and reconnect - can't wait to start booking my Spring visits :)

Over the past couple of years we have gone trail riding many times at Malibu ranch and the guides and staff have been terrific. My daughter who has a lot of riding experience always got a horse she could control and the guides the made the rides fun for a experienced rider. Day passes in the summer time are also a great deal. Yesterday my daughter and her friend (also an experienced rider) had two one hour rides with Josh as a guide -- and he is terrible. On both rides my daughter and her friend were the entire group. So this was a perfect chance to make it fun for them. He was on his phone most of the time. He does not interact with the kids at all. They wanted to ask questions but couldn't because they didn't want to interrupt his phone conversation. One of the horse just kept stopping and lagging way behind. I asked to switch out that horse for the second ride. Then said they could not "go out and catch another horse". So they switched riders and my daughter also could not get the horse to catch up. So on both rides the kids was barley able to even talk to each other. The hole purpose of the trip was for the girls to have fun together and this guy was to busy and lazy to keep a group of two together.
