We did not actually stay at The Nare, but had read about their restaurant, and decided to take the coastal path from Portloe (where we were staying). Unfortunately it had been raining earlier in the day and I took a bad fall about half a mile from the Hotel (I learnt later that I had broke my arm). We arrived,... More

I've been visiting the Nare for many years and have yet to be disappointed. No, it's not cheap but I've yet to be let down. The views from the Quarterdeck restaurant are stunning and the food is excellent. Pays to book in advance though. Ideal for a romantic lunch!

I also want to warn people about my experience of dealing with this hotel. They accepted a booking from me and took the deposit from my credit card BEFORE advising me that they did not have a room for the whole of my stay. They then took weeks to respond to correspondence before I ultimately managed to speak to the... More

Having had couple superb lunches on the quarter deck we are now saving up to go back and have an evening meal and overnight stay to celebrate our BIG birthdays next year instead of our initial plan of going abroad. You really don't need to travel afar when there is such a superb hotel atmosphere and wonderful scenery at The... More

We pass this way on the coast path each October, being a family with certain traditions! Last year we lunched at Portloe, but wished that we had called at the Nare instead. So it was very pleasant to return there for lunch once again in 2014. We have always been made very welcome as non residents, even though we sometimes... More

We have just come back from 4 days at the Nare and had the most wonderful time, our son and his partner had booked in as a surprise and they throughtly enjoyed their time there, swimming in the outdoor pool which was a good temperture even though it was almost October, the hot tub is wonderful overlooking the lovely beach... A peaceful and sublimely tranquil setting by the sea. My wife and I have visited this hotel, situated of the Roseland peninsula, several times a year over a couple of decades so have come to know it extremely well. It is family owned and one in which the staff rarely change, some having been there over twenty-five years. This is... More

We booked a £500 a night room for 4 nights at this hotel via Expedia in April. We provided our credit card details to Expedia. We made a special request on the booking for a ground floor suite and telephoned the hotel at the same time of the booking to confirm the request. We did not hear anything from Expedia... More

Excellent Sunday lunch in main restaurant good service hushed conversation from the other guests no mobiles no ipads no screaming children being allowed to "express themselves" no shorts or idiots loudly asking for another bottle of shampoo ya! perfect in every way. If you don't like old style service then stay away and let the rest of us enjoy it... More

This hotel does what it sets out to achieve, very well. No smoked glass counter-tops or pea foam on Caviar here. It's good old fashioned service and food. When was the last time you were served a flambee by a waitress in a black polyester uniform with a white pinafore? If you can answer that question, you'd love the Nare... More
