I was at this hotel for a wake. The service and food were impeccable. The pasties were "proper" Cornish and all the other food was excellent too. Well done chef! The staff providing drinks and tea/coffee worked very hard to keep us supplied. By the way George is a first class owner. Ignore any rude comments you see. I'm sure... More

We arrived after 8 hours in the car, to be welcomed by George who had everything ready for us, key in hand we went up to our room. I would recommend the Avallen Suite (16) the decor is fab and the bed to die for, the most comfortable bed we have slept in. The suite has it's own balcony and... More

We were there for 4 nights in October and enjoyed every single day.The food was fantastic. The boss was always endeavour our wishes. He organised rolls, croisaants and special cheese for breakfast and had time to talk and recommend sights nearby. The rooms are cozy and in 50s style. One thought Miss Marple was coming around the corner.Lovely! The three courses dinner was fantastic.Cornish... More

Before my first visit to Cornwall, I was told by a friend who once lived there how friendly the locals were. He was right. This was especially true at Porth Avallen. All the staff were so friendly and helpful which made the stay so much more enjoyable. They all seemed to go out of their way to help and make... More

My friend and I stayed for a couple of days 11-12 October. The hotel was really lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and as my friend had dietary problems the chef catered to her needs. The young gentleman who was working in the evening was brillant and even remember what drinks we had... Just spent a night at Porth Avallen - should have read the reviews beforehand - As others have said "Basil Fawlty at Fawlty Towers"! On arriving, first impressions from the outside were "hotel looks tired – but great sea views" But when entered we were met by a very pleasant and efficient receptionist. Our room had great views of the... More

Location is excellent, views to die for, food is good, staff is friendly and courteous, especially Ryan and Abbey. The hotel is old and showing signs of wear and tear, but overall very clean and comfortable. Except the room. "Luxury" view room with twin beds was half the size of a Premier Inn room for three times the cost. We... More

I stayed with my mum in a twin room with a sea view for two nights in July. We booked short notice and struggled to find anywhere else with availability. The staff at Porth Avallen are very welcoming and friendly. The room looked quite dated and in need of a refurb with orange decor and a stale smokey smell despite... More

Hotel tired and we didn't feel it was worth the money we paid - which was extra for a sea view - but because we were on the ground floor meant people walked past our windows and cars parked outside!! Room was very 80s and not of a particularly great standard. The room was small so if you wanted a... More
