We only came here a couple of drinks after a long day walking. The staff and locals were very welcoming to us and our dog (who even got a little treat) The pub is in a beautiful setting and makes a nice alternative to the more commercial places in Mevagissey (its only a short walk between the two)

Great location and interesting olde world inside, has had a few owners over the years, the food at the moment is average at best, beers are good, it's not awful, you just get the feeling they don't love what they are doing .... Shame really as its a very pretty pub, may be we caught the on an off day,... More

We ate here three times while staying in portmellon , staff are friendly and the food was lovely...very dog friendly...cosy fire, and overlooking the sea. The menu was limited but everything we had was great.

Myself and two friends booked a family room for a 2 night stay. The room was dated and unkempt. We were only given half a toilet roll and when requested more was told that they would bring some more yet never did. Breakfast was awful. The room used was cold, dark and damp. The plates / bowls were dirty and... More

Small, clean rooms, but everything thare what you need for a short stay. We had No. 5 - nice look over the bay. High Tide during the night did wake us up as the waves were crushing in - great! Comfortable beds. And not to forget the food in the pub - see separate review.

second time at the rising sun and our last. room was dated and toilet was dirty but one of the best views in Cornwall otherwise it would have been one mark! downstairs bar was dirty and didn't eat as even the laminated menu had stains on ! They even rang last orders at 9.45 on the first night as there... More

Disappointing based on what we were led to believe from our booking. We did not expect anything glorious at the price paid (£80 per night) but cleanliness could have been better, the shower walls would certainly have benefited from some Dettox to remove the thick coating of black on the majority of tiles. Our room wasn’t serviced every day. A... More

Booked this for a 6 night stay as a base to your around. The setting is beautiful, the pub not so. Our room was very basic, very dirty, see pics. Had to ask for toilet roll, had to ask for thumping music to stop, went on till 3am the first night and past midnight on second. Checked out after 2... More

This accommodation really consists of rooms above a pub, but you wouldn't really know it: there is a separate entrance to the 6 rooms, so you don't have to walk through the bar to get to the rooms. The rooms themselves are reasonably sized, and they are thoughtfully furnished and fitted out: we had plenty of space in drawers and... More

We stayed in Portmellon for two weeks and ate as a family here three times as it's great for traditional pub food and St Austell beer. Beats the throng of Meva. Overlooks the port/beach but watch out for high tides!
