Decided to book an overnight stop on the way to St Ives. When booking we were given several options re room type. Whilst this was one night only we opted for a standard room. On arrival the receptionist was very helpful, this was also the case with other staff during our stay. Everything was perfect, very clean, comfortable bed, thick... More

I made a big mistake with this place, I booked it without reading the reviews on here first. I did read the reviews after I had booked and it was too late to cancel. I love staying places where the food is excellent, and according to the recent reviews this place is the complete opposite, so I decided to find... More

Visited today 30.7.14. Stunning building and surroundings, but there endeth the highlight. Food cold and grossly overpriced. Service none existent, with a somewhat grumpy cook. As one of Cornwallis treasures, you get the feeling that it's history, a very good book and several films based on it, are sufficient to draw in the crowds and turn them over. The feeling... More

Visited there tonight for evening meal. 4 meals ordered and 3 were a disappointment. My steak was bland, the chips that came with it were tasteless. My mrs nachos were burnt and her mothers scampi and chips looked terrible. Our daughters children's meal sausage and mash was the only acceptable dish. With drinks we paid £51 which was definitely over... More

I came for lunch and to look around as it is nearby and after watching the BBC TV programme I was interested in visiting. First impression was good and I liked the building and history of the place. However we had lunch and that was what was very disappointing! The coffee machine didn't work properly, the orangeade from the fizzy... More

This stop should be on your bucket list. To treat yourself at least once, even though I recommend more, in this lifetime is a must. Put it high on the list. Even though we booked months in advance we couldn't get all the accommodation we wanted. The only solution for us is to make another trip. The location was exactly... More

Love this place for its location and history. The room we stayed in was rather small but had a very good shower and was neat and tidy. Brew making facilities were abundant and sky tv is great after a few pints and a pie downstairs. The food was good. I read some poor reviews for food before we stayed here... More

My family of 3 (incl 16yr son) stayed here overnight on way into Cornwall as I figured it would be a change from standard b&b or hotel. It is different although you don't really get a feel for the history. I was a little concerned as previous reviews aren't complimentary. However, the welcome is good, the room fine & quaint,... More

Our stay was in the older part of the building haunted room 5 which was amazingly well kept and the four poster was very comfortable. Free Bottle of wine a great touch for the room price. Service was top notch 10/10 nothing too much trouble. Good selection of food. All in all excellent place steeped in history.

I love this place it's a joy to visit, sadly it's charm of yesteryear has become a commercial exercise and a cattle market. Food conveyor belt canteen hall facility at the back of the most wonderful beautiful frontage, so sad. Business dictates I suppose and profit outway good old fashioned service !!! No doubt it's acceptable in today's society call... More
