Stayed here second time on business. Impressive on arrival and good public areas - but rooms a little tired - I think I must have had an un-refurbished one. Food OK but restaurant tends to be very quiet. Many eat in the bar area. Good rates. more
As the name would suggest the hotel is well located for the races - the racecourse is a 15 minute walk down the road. Its also well placed for the motorway network and therefore Liverpool and Manchester if you are on business in the area. There's not much (well, nothing) else in the immediate area, but that doesn't pose a... more
We recently stayed at this hotel for a one night leisure break special ( booked through a travel company - not directly with the hotel ) We travelled from Sheffield and found it very easy to get to. Our room was large and clean though perhaps in need of a little TLC. The grouting in the bathroom was a little... more
My wife and I and my two teenage children (15 and 17 years old) stayed at the hotel for two days in February 2009 to relax and visit family. We found the hotel clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to the M6 and has ample secure parking. (Word of warning: the motorway junction is complex... more

Due to perseverence we eventually gained... more

Would advise staying at the Holiday Inn Haydock if you want a good gym, however the food and service there is terrible, so stay at the Thistle if... more
This is the second time we have stayed here, previously August 2007 both stays 2 night stays and this time the service was 110%, from when we checked in to sitting in the bar to eating in the restaurant, but that is not to say the service was faultless last time. First off, lets get the only gripe out of... more
Stayed here for one night on business. We did get a bargain rate because we chose to stay in one of the unrefurbished rooms. It was fine, spacious and clean, not a great decor scheme, a bit eighties but most importantly clean. Hotel has a huge marquee in the quad for weddings etc and if there had been anything on... more
I don't understand why some people complain about this hotel. We stayed 1 night on4th May 2008 to attend the wedding of my son.I rang reception early in the morning to see if we could check in early.Although the hotel was fully booked the night before, the receptionist couldn't have been more helpful, she checked with housekeeping,& a room was made... more
