Stayed for two night in early July while on business to Thames Valley Park looking for an alternative to being in Reading. The location is quaint and picturesque and the cottages are very roomy compared to a standard hotel room with the added bonus of dashing across the road (surprisingly busy in the morning) to the main building. While a... More

As you arrive, you cannot fail to be enchanted by the beauty and environment - though crossing the road from the car park demands very careful attention, particularly with luggage. As you step inside, you are immediately taken back to the past, and open fire with ducks turning on a spit, lovely beams, loads of antiques and wine paraphernalia. And... More

If you are looking for place to stay within easy reach of London/Heathrow then the French Horn in Sonning is wonderful. We stayed one night and were delighted with the staff, the food, the high level of service and overall attention to detail. It’s a delightful place right by the side of the Thames with beautiful walks along the river.

The service here is old school, first class, which is no bad thing. Attentive without being obtrusive in all areas. We had room 27 which is one of the excellent two story cottages just over the road from the main building - they overlook the river and have a terrace where you can have breakfast / drinks etc. The bedroom... Spent 4 nights last week staying in the cottages whilst working away. Nice to have the space the cottages afforded rather that a small hotel room, although the bed was rock hard and uncomfortable. Company expenses policy meant I could only eat off the set menu, not the £180 caviar to start or the £25000 bottle of wine (I'll save... More

This is a fantastic place to stay and eat. The rooms over the road in the cottages where we stayed are lovely. We had breakfast overlooking the river outside. The restaurant is exceptional. The service and atmosphere is just right. We will certainly be back.

My wife and I stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary, so returned last month for our 25th, with offspring in tow. It was exactly what I remembered and went there for. Very old fashioned service - we could have dropped through a time-warp into the 1930s, and I wouldn't have been surprised to find Lord Peter Wimsey around a... More

A return to this great hotel and restaurant was needed and we are glad we did The rooms are comfortable and if I was honest in need of modernisation but that aside they are comfortable with all you need It's the food and the remarkable service that we go back for Michael the MD is charming and makes old and... I have eaten at The French Horn several times and have never been disappointed. The setting is so pretty, right by the River Thames. The service was attentive without being OTT, and we felt looked after. I wasn't expecting the little surprise at the end of the evening -- so thank you to the FH for doing that. The food... More

We stayed in one of the rooms in the main house albeit they are a bit old fashioned that actually adds to the charm of the place. The food and service is amazing, could not fault anything. Breakfast was also really nice. All in all a fantastic night away.
