Only came across this place by mistake. Lovely decor, some very decent ales. The toilets are beautiful and sparkling clean, always a good sign in my book. Did not eat, but will next time. The menu had some very interesting fare listed. They also do lovely accommodation. Outside is their bakery, lovely fresh bread and home made chutneys. A great... More

We had a table of three booked for the Friday night. When we arrived it was very busy. We were shown without getting to the bar to our table which was next to the bar. It was apparent there was no other location to sit. The people at the bar stood hard against the table we sat at, not their... More

Dear Ian b, I do recall your visit to The Crown and Garter. I also remember your phone conversation with our Restaurant Manager informing you that the restaurant was going to be both busy and noisy at 20.00 - trying to demote you from booking that very time for your family meal. Your booking was made by phone at 18.38... More

The rooms are excellent, absolutely spotless, nice decor, loads of nice touches like a heated floor in the bathroom, complimentary shaving kits / toothbrush kit / sewing kit, thermos of fresh milk to go with the tea/coffee, free wifi without annoying login password palava, etc. etc. We visited in November but I would imagine the grounds are lovely in the... Good Old Boy is top beer and this place knows how to keep it perfectly. A smashing secluded and safe garden for kids to run around in. Lovely view of Coombe GIbbet. An excellent menu with some non-typical pub dishes. Friendly staff and very good service.

Secluded, yet worth the solitude. A two mile taxi ride from Kintbury Station leads you to a quiet barn like setting. A warm and accommodating welcome from the staff, a first rate (as in 5 stars!) room along with a quality gastropub style menu. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Breakfast was every bit as good as the dinner.... More

Stayed at the Crown & Garter on our wedding night (and the night either side) and it did not disappoint. Had all 10 rooms for close family and all very complimentary about their stay. Rooms extremely comfortable and clean with excellent decor throughout. Food in the restaurant of an excellent quality for both breakfast and lunch and the onsite bakery... More

We have now been here many times and it is always an enjoyable experience, whether for a glass of wine, snack lunch or dinner. The garden is lovely as are the pork pies, home made to boot, crispy duck starter or perfectly cooked hake. Lovely staff and consientious manager. Pleased that Wendi! Wont be going again!! And dog friendly great... More

What a beautiful place to relax after a hard days work. Set in a picturesque village. Beautiful rooms in the converted stable block style. Shower was to die for and the mattress was super comfy. I was astounded the wifi worked so well in such a rural setting which was vital for me finishing off e mails in the evening.... More

We visited for Saturday lunch - four people and the two hounds. We had booked in advance and let them know there would be four of us and two dogs. We were told a 'spacious table' would be arranged and 'We might have some biscuits around for them!'. The table was perfect as it was in a corner with lots... More

Dear ToursWithPaws, I understand your visit wasn't perfect and would like to apologise for the delays. As every kitchen that cooks from scratch and carefully selects its ingredients we do run out of some dishes every now and again - even though we can often prepare more (as we did with the burgers) we try our best to inform the... Booked without any previous research, and very glad we did. My wife and I stayed one night and found to be very comfortable with excellent food. Service was very comfortable and efficient without being too fussy. Rooms were well-equipped and nothing was too much trouble. Will certainly return.
