Went for the first time in a while, and had the Sunday roast. It was made with proper beef (not the pre sliced stuff some pubs used), and the accompanying veg and Yorkshire pudding were excellent. Their pie of the day was absolutely stuffed with meat. The homemade gravy was fantastic, and they even provided us bread to mop up... More

Eaten here several times as it's my local but this month the new chef introduced a new menu and some specials so we decided to give it a try, have to say we weren't disappointed the food was excellent this place can give others in the area a run for their money. Well done to Dave and Sue who inherited... More

Food only We came here on Mother's day for Sunday dinner, we didn't know what to expect really - the website has got a bit of a 1999 feel to it, and I don't think the pictures do the place justice. Friday lunch-time & we could not get in to the Pack Horse in Affetside so called in here for lunch as other trip advisor reviews were good & "homemade cheese & onion pie" is my favourite. Cheese & onion pie was not good. Pastry was like rock & filling was mushy, tasteless & scalding hot (microwaved?). Chips had been cooked... More

Wow, what a gem when out and about and not sure of what you're going to get. What a lovely homely welcome, clean, comfortable and food to die for. I love an establishment that offers the extras, for me it's the gravy, I have to have gravy lol. Two nights we dined at your establishment and would have stayed in... More

Been a fair number of times over the recent years. Since it changed hands to Sue and Dave, it's improved a great deal and is well worth a visit. It's essentially a village local, with several rooms including a dining room, and is all the better for retaining this arrangement, in my opinion. The beer's invariably on good form with... More
