The four of us (two couples) stayed here in 2008 and always planned to return. We finally got around to it for Valentines weekend 2015. We weren't disappointed. The hotel has been extended slightly but it is in keeping with the original building. Las time we had Battlements and our friends Wedgers. This time we had Wedgers and they had... More

Weve just got back from the Talbot. Me, husband and german shepherd dog were made welcome from the minute we arrived. The staff were helpful, efficient and fun. We had Battlements 2 room and it was great. Old creaky floors which sloped toward the fantastic brick feature sky light! The food was lovely, all sourced locally, they even have their... More

Visited the Talbot on our way home, big huge disappointment. The staff were unwelcoming, couldn't be bothered. Our meal was awful, cutlery dirty & also the tables the glasses were not that great either. Very unwelcoming to say the least. We will not be returning, avoid with a passion get better service in KFC.

Having visited a few weeks earlier for Sunday lunch (and had a very nice meal) we were really disappointed on our return to find it frankly unwelcoming. Once we had finally managed to order ( menus were not forthcoming) our cutlery was virtually thrown on the table! Come on guys!!!!!!!! We have trip advisor for a reason! If the Talbot... More

Always have good hearty meals here, love the wine, the fire, rickety old furniture and the fact that Annie never smiles, unless she wants too! It's not perfect but that's the charm of the place for me. I like it here and we regularly go for lunch. I can't believe some of the comments on here about the food.

Paid a visit on boxing day with family for Christmas drinks. The place was very busy even at 12 with a visit from Morris Dancers promised. Even though it was busy, service was quick and staff friendly.our party really enjoyed the beer brewed on the premises and the Morris Dancers completed the traditional feel. a traditional old fashioned place well worth... Superb old inn, owned by same family for generations. Off the main road, comfortable rooms, superb food, huge log fire and brilliant service. We have been here three times now and have taken friends there with us. We have all enjoyed it immensely. I cannot believe some of the negative comments. This is an old inn, with huge stone slab... Stayed here on a business trip with a colleague about year ago. Both loved it. Quaint rooms with personal touches. Great meal. Got on well with staff and fab to just wander up to the bar to bed. Breakfast was all locally produced food . Wonder if it has changed hands? I couldn't fault it.

Having read the most recent reviews, it is difficult to disagree with others observations on the condition of the rooms. Old wonky/creaky floors, worn out carpets, dodgy plumbing and just an unwelcome trip back in time. The bedroom at the far end of the building is above a noisy fan, it wakes you up at 5.30am and needs repairing. The... More

The place needs to be avoided. We had booked it for a larger function with overnight stay. The initial shock were the rooms - old carpets, fittings carelessly reattached to the walls - with lots of holes where the fittings used to be. The bed was lumpy, the windows leaking and the smell from the kitchen was everywhere. The bar... More
