I was a little concerned after reading previous reviews but decided to give it a go. So pleased we did, will be returning. We were welcomed and served drinks husband was unsure which ale to have so was offered tasters. I asked if we needed to book a table, was told no and was invited to choose a table so... More

This inn had a very good reputation some years ago, regrettably it has gone down hill since then. Arrived and checked that food was being served and was advised there would be a wait, even though it was mid week and early evening with only four tables occupied. Menu looked inviting if a little expensive for a county inn, nothing... More

This is a country pub in a lovely setting and beautiful building. We met a friend here for dinner after reserving a table. The staff was very sluggish in filling drink and food orders, and not particularly friendly. The menu is very pricey for pub grub that is not top notch. I would not recommend, and will not likely return.

This is probably the fifth visit we have made to this place solely because it is nearby and a pretty place to bring people when they visit. However we have never, ever, been welcomed there as many people have poster below. In the last week though the service has just been totally shocking that we have now vowed never to... More

Second visit and would return without hesitation. An amazing 4 course meal, nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. The chef asked how we liked our meats cooked, once served visited each table asking diners if everything was to their liking. Couldn’t do enough for the diners. Very impressive. Food was delicious, well presented and a real treat.... More

Took my mum for a meal here and we were not disappointed. The specials sounded mouthwatering and lived up to my expectation! We had starter and main from the specials, after being tempted by the options. The portions were huge, nicely presented and tasty. Plus the bill didn't shock me too much. What more could you want! The pub itself... More

The Shears...... well.....disappointed to say the least. On entering the pub we had a young man serving us who was actually the best member of staff we witnessed on our visit, as the service was simply undesirable to say the least. We could really tell that the staff had clearly not been trained and were not attentive. We sat down... More

A nice country drive for a Saturday lunch. Nice interior, nice tables & chairs and propoer fires (not that they were roaring as it was a lovely day). Menu is limited which I prefer, my wife chose the veal escalope and I chose the mushroom linguine. I did ask if the chef could knock some garlic bread but apparently he... More

On route from West Wales (Ty Afal holiday cottage) to Hampshire, my wife and I had decided to break the journey fairly close to Verwood in Dorset. A 'brown' sign directed us to the Shears Inn. What a super place! Some mile and a half from the main road, a fantastic 'proper' country pub. Best lamb I've had for ages... More

We stopped by at this lovely looking pub after visiting a nearby shop, we had with us our 11yo son. My son and I ordered the Cheesburgers with chips (approx £11 each) and a salad and my husband ordered the Rump Steak and fries (approx £14) - the barmaid was pleasant and helped us choose our drinks, the 'chef' came...
