My parents have just moved into the area and decided to visited The Shears today for a family birthday celebration. We were a family party of 10. All of us had a thoroughly lovely time and enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast. Couldn't fault the food in any way. Portions were fab, fresh and definitely home made. My hungry teenagers couldn't... A family party of 8 adults and 1 child of one year old booked for lunch today at 1pm, we have eaten here before at this time of year as is a good half way meeting point for 2 families but this is first time I have posted a review. The food as always was very good, we ate a... More

Came here as part of my husbands 60th birthday treat, he was stationed at Larkhill when he was with the Royal Artillery Will gloss over the first night as mistakes happen but the second night was perfection and we are so glad we decided to have our second meal at the Shears. The people are so friendly and we came... More

I'm not particularly happy giving The Shears just three out of five - 'average'. The location and building are both charming, food very good and service excellent. So, let's quickly cover straight why it only scored three and finish on some great pluses. Reason number one for the lower score is simply sound proofing. We were woken by the noise... More

This is a lovely hotel set in a beautiful quiet location. If you are looking for busy pubs and shops . . Then you may not be the hotel for you as it is in the middle of nowhere. . . But for us it was perfect! The rooms are lovely and clean and the food is 1st class. Would... More

I stayed here for 4 nights for work - Id like to come back but it is always fully booked and Ive had to take my changes with the poor accommodation offerings in Amesbury. My room was clean and comfortable, and lovely and quiet - I had a great nights sleep. The only negative was the wifi signal was not... More

Spent on night here with my wife & her parents joined us. The pub is in the middle of nowhere & didn't know what to expect. But, upon arrival the outside garden was beautiful. Hanging baskets of flowers & the staff happily mingled with customers. We were given our keys & found the rooms clean, neat & tidy. Both were... More

We stayed with friends for one night. Location lovely and close to Netheravon where we going for the Skydiving Centre. The bar was cosy and the Red Beer excellent. Rooms were clean and had everything you needed for a stay for a few nights. But the best part was the food. It was excellent with a unique selection of starters... More

The rooms are fine ,although we were given the family room which was of average size I guess the other rooms to be smalller ? The beer selection is poor although they do have some local ciders .The restaurant is a victory for style over content .The cod and chips was all presentation and no taste ,putting food on blocks... I stayed at the shears for two weeks whilst working in the area. The accommodation was very comfortable and the managers could not do enough to make me feel at home during my stay. Over the two weeks I ate here nearly every night, the food is of a high standard and offered enough variety that I could have something... More
