There was a time when "The Old Bell" was very good. It then got depressingly awful. I am so pleased to say it is getting better. The menu has been pared back from what it was. The dining room is not the glorious "old school" charm that it was. It has moved into the 21st century and has not the... More

The Old Bell is a beautiful building seeped in history. We stayed for two nights and we're automatically upgraded on arrival free of charge, as a Birthday surprise from the Hotel (which was a lovely thought). The room was spacious and very comfortable, clean and tidy. The food at the hotel was excellent, with a good choice on the menu.... More

We have stayed here on several occasions through out in all different types of rooms. Our first stay was in a basic rooms but we had booked on to a dinner, bed and breakfast package and the food was superb. Every time we have visited since we try to book one of this superior rooms/ deluxe. All of these rooms... More

This is a lovely old hotel-apparently there is a ghost. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The bedrooms in the main hotel are all different and some quite unusual.I was very impressed with the food.Breakfast menu was very varied and cooked to order-the egg florentine is the best I've ever had. There was a good variety on the dinner menu and my... Lovely hotel in a great position in beautiful Malmesbury. Lots of character. There for NYE and soup, crab dish and main course really good. Great service, too and staff eager to please. Housekeeping not so good — broken biscuit behind the chair in our room and when walking barefoot on carpet, felt like it had not been hoovered i.e. felt... More

Just spent a week in the Old Bell Hotel and still the best place to stay in this part of the UK. As usual, they went all the way out to make our stay a very enjoyable one. As I have recently became a vegan, I thought it was going to be difficult as the Old Bell is very good... More

The Old Bell is a beautiful quintessential Cotswold hotel which is located directly next to the Abbey. Rooms are fairly average but beds are comfy. Food was excellent in the evening and breakfast was spot on too. Highly recommended and we cannot wait to return.

Old world hotel next to the abbey. Roaring fires which are terrific! Lunchtime tapas which was disappointing! Firstly they had swordfish on the menu then they decided it was an old menu so no swordfish! Second, soft shell crabs; absolutely somthered in a horrible batter! They were terrible, full of a dreadful liquid! Most unpleasant.

Arrived on wet, stormy day but cheered by the lovely old town of Malmesbury, still quite unspoiled, the beautiful and romantic facade of the Old Bell with the Abbey ruins adjacent; and the warm welcome from the staff at the hotel. The rooms generally were good, we were in the old building which had been updated but it still needed... More

After a long and difficult journey the Old Bell was a real tonic, the staff were so friendly and the food delicious and great value . I will certainly return with my pups! The rooms were charming and beautifully furnished and the public rooms have a lovely relaxed and welcoming feel to them. We were lucky enough to stay a... More
