. So why only 4 stars? Because it does need a little bit of modernising, refreshing, even a deep-down steam cleaning of the carpets. Overall very pleasant, although you should note that it has quirky steps in hidden places so be wary if you are slightly tottery! Bar food good, restaurant ditto. Young foreign staff are excellent, clearly well trained.... More

We have stayed here several times before.Last week we were upgraded to a room in the main hotel which had 3 windows a settee and huge bathroom On previous visits the restaurant was rather staid with formal silver service but it has now been updated which we prefer and we had a good meal at a reasonable price Good breakfast

We were lucky to be upgraded and the room was superb. It was extremely large with an enormous bed, a two-seat settee, a desk and chair and a window overlooking Malmesbury Abbey The bathroom was almost equally large with a freestanding bath and (believe or not!) a niche window with a cushioned seat - romantic or what! The hotel itself... More

I stayed overnight recently in the Old Bell for a training course in the small attached conference centre. The hotel is charming and unique - my room was huge and featured a massive rolltop bath and views of the church opposite. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel was quiet. We had lunch, then dinner on the first night,... More

We've stayed many times at The Old Bell and have loved every visit. It was my 'significant' birthday so there really was no where else we would rather go to celebrate! As before everything was superb - the room in then main hotel was wonderful, the food delicious, the staff attentive and the whole ambience of the hotel simply top... More

Staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is well located in the centre of malmesbury and is central to everything. The car park is small with very tight parking spaces. We stayed in the more expensive room, the Harry brakespear. Very roomy, but could of done with a proper clean. Breakfast was very nice.

We have just had a very pleasant one night stay at The Old Bell Hotel. The room "Stokes" facing the street , had everything needed for our short stay. The staff were all very professional and the food excellent at both dinner and breakfast with a very good choice. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would stay again.

We stayed a couple of nights in April. The second evening we were guests at a friend's 50th held in the Inn. The room in the converted coach block was ok if a bit small. But the beds were comfortable and the shower worked well. The staff were extremely friendly (mostly French - and we had lived in France recently... More

Seemingly the only Cotswolds (nearly!) hotel not fully booked a month before, we did wonder why, and what a truly wonderful surprise this hotel was! Beautiful setting, right in the shadow of the Abbey, with a sheltered courtyard garden to enjoy coffee/drinks in. Every single thing we ate - sandwiches, bar snacks, dinner, breakfast, Sunday lunch - was absolutely delicious,... More

I visited with a friend for afternoon tea on a weekday when it was very quiet. We were told we could sit anywhere we wanted. We started exploring and discovered four or five separate lounges all comfortably fitted out with sofas, armchairs and coffee tables. We chose an empty one although none were crowded. Our waitress had no trouble finding... More
