We booked The Old Bell after checking out the reviews on this site and it exceeding our expectations. We spent three nights on a DBB deal and took our 16 month old son. On our arrival we had been upgraded to a premium room in the original building and a travel cot had been set up and made ready for... more

Our first visit was just my wife and I, second was with two other couples, so a party of six in all. Both occassions have been a pleasure. The rooms are all individual, some are more spacious than others but all are at least large. Tastefull decor, excellent bedding, LCD TV's, tea & coffee maker etc....Friendly, well turned out and... more

This wonderful gem of a hotel, reputed to be the oldest in England and right next door to a medieval abbey is a MUST for a romantic break! It was our anniversary and the hotel staff did all they could to make this a very special time for us. Tom Rains' food is amazing! The service is discrete yet attentive... more

We stayed here for one night in order to go to a friend's fortieth birthday party. This was a trip down memory lane as we had our wedding reception here almost exactly eight years ago. We happened to mention this to the receptionist when we arrived, and when we returned to our room after sampling a cream tea in one... more

I spent a really great weekend here with my girlfriend just before Christmas. It is a cosy little hotel/inn justed like you would want it be, no pretending. A bar, a log fire, a rocking chair, corners to get lost in, settles, blankets and the food. The food was fantastic, local original British food, prepared and presented with love and... more

Just returned from an overnight stay here (mid-Jan 2008). We were in Malmesbury for a friends 30th birthday so admittedly didn't spend much time in the hotel, rather we were out enjoying the hostelries in the town - the Smoking Dog at the other end of the High St is a fine establishment and does good food too! We were... more

We had a late booking for a 2-day break to see the New Year in. The hotel is good standard old-fashioned in the best sense - log fires, cosy corners and antique furniture. Since the age of the building precludes double glazing, our otherwise excellent room at the front suffered from traffic noise at times. The service from every member... more

This is a little gem of a place to stay. We booked originally on a B& B basis , but asked for dinner on the first night. The food was superb! We booked in for dinner for the rest of our stay. We did have a few glitches with room service - no towels etc, but these were soon ironed... more

Stayed here for just one night recently but I have to say its a real little gem. Reception friendly and helpful, rooms really nicely decorated, as well as clean and well-stocked. The reception areas, lounges and dining rooms are classily maintained and the food is of much better than average standard (although I did only have the breakfast). I would... more
