We were only there for dinner, sleep and breakfast. The food in the restaurant was good and not as expensive as we'd expected. We thought the included continental breakfast was great, with a good variety on offer. There was plenty to suit every member of the family. The room was slightly crowded with the extra single bed but it didn't... more

A short drive from, the motorway, Wooton Bassett and Swindon's industrial parks the hotel seems ideally located and the prices are reasonable with a discount for early payment. However the rooms are tired the bathrooms are tired, and the owners need to take a deep breath and stand back a little from the customers. It's possible that they considered themselves to... more

My husband and I spent just one night at the School House. Found no trouble parking. We were warmly welcomed by the lady owner. Our room, the Bennenden, was of a good size, plenty of storage but dated and very musty smelling. The bed needs replacing asap. The bathroom again was a good size but the bath was chipped and the shower... more

Was attracted to this hotel because we wanted to stay in a hotel with real character. When we arrived it took us a while to find someone. Man was fairly friendly. Room was a bit shabby and stunk of cigarettes. TV was a bit dodgy. Lady was unable to get me a glass of tap water at the bar. Few... more

I booked this hotel for a Christmas Party in Dec 07. When we arrived there was no warm welcome and we were left wandering around trying to find the bar. Festive atmosphere was distinctly lacking - no Christmas Tree; no Music etc. We were then seated on 5 separate round "kitchen" tables that sat 3 each and made it impossible... more

A fantastic two night stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is superb. It is set in a beautiful rural location but easily found as just a short drive from the M4. more

Inadequate parking, I had to park down the road on the verge of a narrow lane. Room facilities meagre, a cup of tea in room will cost you £3.50, TV not working properly, food disappointing, had to have my main course replaced because I could not eat it. Very unsatisfactory response to my concerns. more

Guest comment Inadequate parking, I had to park down the road on the verge of a narrow lane. Our reply Guest was met on arrival by hotel staff in the carpark prior to leaving his car with an offer to park his car in adjacent (private) land. This was declined. Guest insisted on parking his own car on the road...

As you arrive...BE CAREFUL driving, way out in country thru 1 lane passages and dangerous. Don't attempt @ nite. Once there a cheerful greeting from Karen makes it seem worthwhile. No lift, rooms small, no water heater for coffe/tea, wireless access wasn't working, and tv on the fritz. So what to do? Eat @ dining room, good but pricey food.... more

Re submission Hookstreet is a 2.4 KM long country lane 5 minutes from junction 16 of the M4 Motorway. Dedicated passing places and a 30 MPh speedlimit make it safe as long as you drive no faster than the speed limit. Fortunately at night it is even easier to navigate as headlamp beams make you aware of oncoming cars miles...

I stayed in the School Hotel for 10 days during December, on business. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. The bedroom was fresh and spacious, furnished with exquisite furniture and controllable heating. For business purposes the room was perfect - free wireless internet availability, a large desk, reading lamp and quiet. The cosy little bar was... more

We spent only one night in this hotel, but the staff could not have been more helpful. The rooms were clean and good sized (furnished in dark oak) and the breakfast in the beautiful school hall was fabulous. Great value! more
