Having taken a day trip to Hebden and being very impressed by the exterior we were welcomed in and seated immediately with instant drinks order. The food was wholesome and delicious. Staff were very attentive throughout and manager was a gentleman at the culmination of our visit. Competitive prices, fantastic cleanliness, homely feel and lovely atmosphere. A return is definitely... More

Stayed in room 9 in the courtyard. Carpet was dirty and felt we could not walk on it without slipper or shoes on. Did not look as if it had been vacuumed before our stay and the edges of the carpet covered in dust. Really put us off our stay. Will not be going back.

On a previous visit to Hebden Bridge, I was shown round some of the vacant rooms by an extremely helpful and pleasant 'Geordie' member of staff. As a consequence I booked Room 3. What a wonderful place to stay in for a birthday treat for my wife. The room was clean, plush and comfortable and the pub/hotel itself quirky and... More

Called in at lunchtime. Plenty of character, nice friendly staff and nice roaring fire. Waited a while for food but to be expected if freshly prepared as the wild mushroom risotto appeared to be and certainly worth the wait. Delicious and possibly best I have tasted. Would recommend. Also parking at rear which is always handy in Hebden Bridge.

The White Lion Hotel offers great food and service. With a real wood fire we both felt cozy inside as it was cold and raining in Hebden. We both ordered a gourmet burger which was brilliant, 100% minced ribeye steak, with mouth watering coleslaw and thick fluffy potato chips (good value for the quality and quantity of food on the... Had a lovely dinner at the white lion yesterday evening. I opted for the fondue as a main while my boyfriend had the proper Yorkshire pie. Good food, my one slight concern with the fondue was the amount of meat for one person, perhaps mix it up with some crudités? The pub was bustling and had a nice cosy atmosphere... More

I held my daughter's christening reception in the White Lion Function Room recently. Although the room was full of rowdy children the size of the room worked very well. The fact that it was well out of the way of the main public areas, upstairs with separate loos and its own bar was terrific. The room was decorated beautifully and... More

Went here for a celebration following a recommendation from a friend. I rang in advance to book a table and was given the option of where I wanted to sit. As I hadn't been before the table near the fireplace was recommended and subsequently reserved for us. The pub is lovely inside and the table was the best located. We... More

Visited on 21st Feb 2014 pm...What could have been the perfect experience was spoiled by simply not having enough staff behind the bar. Poor girl on her own was serving drinks, answering the phone, liaising with waitresses, taking room bookings, sorting out the coal fire etc etc. It baffles me that a purveyor of real ale does not have enough staff... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A REAL YORKSHIRE WELCOME AWAITS...The White Lion Hotel is a traditional coaching inn, with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine, yet informal and relaxed country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. Surrounded by true Yorkshire history and the stunning countryside of the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. The countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn, and that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way. Also within easy access to the rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the inn is centrally based for business or leisure. And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished boutique bedrooms, with Victorian roll-top baths and deep luxurious colours, are complimented by family rooms and courtyard cottages - with the riverside literally at your front door. Dated 1657, the White Lion Hotel is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! Now under new ownership since September 2011 and with a full building refurbishment to be completed by December 2011; we look forward to welcoming you soon... ... more   less
