Starters, mains all great. Couldn't fit a pudding in. Great service, food and location. What more could you ask for. Will be visiting here again and staying overnight hopefully. Wines also excellent. Hebden bridge is a great night out, very friendly and welcoming in all the pubs. We got the train which was cheap. Lots of lovely shops.

Just visited with my partner for a very relaxing lunch, service was excellent and the decor gas been done to a very high standard with that cosy feeling, especially in the snug room. My partner had traditional steak & ale pie with chunky chips , it was huge ! Could have fed two ! The food is excellent and I... More

Called in yesterday afternoon on a cool damp afternoon, lovely cosy room and a pleasant atmosphere. .The food was very tasty, homemade steak pie and beef stew - very generous portions. Next time I will have to make room for a pudding as they looked delicious. Staff were very efficient and pleasant. Will definitely return.

Called in here around 5pm, after a long day had a dog and was told no dogs after 5pm as they were really busy. However, to cut a long story short and thanks to a very, very friendly manager, who found us a table - we had an outstanding pub meal. The food was locally sourced and cooked to perfection... More

I stayed at the White Lion for one night and found it a great place to stay. The bar area was friendly and warm with log fire and a very comfortable atmosphere but with nothing either pretentious or overly quaint about it. I stayed in one of the courtyard rooms, which was excellent. A very large double room which was... More

Dear Rose. I am very sorry that you thought our service was not up to standard with your after funeral visit, but I am a little confused. The majority of your party actually commented that they had had a very pleasant time, and actually mentioned to my staff to say a specific 'thank you' to Sandie and Anne who looked... More

Stayed here for two days for work Unfortunately, but would love to come back. delightful town, cafe bars restaurants, country walks, canals, mills and beautiful country side. Warm hospitable staff, roaring log fire and food in huge portions. The room had a huge roll top bath, waterfall shower and triple aspect window. Such a comfortable bed in a huge room.

We have eaten here on several occasions in the last six months. We have always found the staff most welcoming and pleasantly efficient. The food is excellent from a varied and extensive menu. We will return.

We were looking for somewhere to eat and walked out of 1 place because we didnt fancy anything on the menu and we are so glad we did! We then saw the characterful white lion and headed in. I started with the mussels and my partner had the prawn and crayfish cocktail. The mussels were melt in the mouth and... More

Stopped for a drink. The bar area has a warm and inviting feel to it, with an open fire. Very old building with a very good atmosphere. Extremely popular with lunchtime diners, offering a large selection of food. Somewhat pricey with drinks. Well worth a visit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A REAL YORKSHIRE WELCOME AWAITS...The White Lion Hotel is a traditional coaching inn, with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine, yet informal and relaxed country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. Surrounded by true Yorkshire history and the stunning countryside of the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. The countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn, and that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way. Also within easy access to the rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the inn is centrally based for business or leisure. And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished boutique bedrooms, with Victorian roll-top baths and deep luxurious colours, are complimented by family rooms and courtyard cottages - with the riverside literally at your front door. Dated 1657, the White Lion Hotel is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! Now under new ownership since September 2011 and with a full building refurbishment to be completed by December 2011; we look forward to welcoming you soon... ... more   less
