3 couples stayed in the courtyard cottages, no warm welcome, and all 3 courtyard cottages were a disappointment. In cottages 8 and 9 there has been some dampness on the ajoining wall, the beds were uncomfortable and the pillows hard, also stains on the carpet. The bathrooms need updating to a standard that warrants £105 per night.

Visited for lunch as part if the Street Choirs Festival . The food was plentiful and of high quality . I had a ham sandwich with lots of accompaniments including great chips. service was friendly and helpful. there needed to be many more staff to serve the customers.

Superb meal and plenty of it. Excellent service. Lovely cosy pub and very clean bathroom. Even provide a take.home for portion I couldn't finish ;-) I would definitely recommend either for lunch or evening meal and in the centre of Hebden Bridge for all attractions.

My friend and I went to watch Le Tour De France at the weekend and called in The White Lion for food. I have to say we got great service from all the staff they were very friendly and polite. The food was great, and although our order was not right the first time they were very quick to rectify... More

A snug and historic inn but with all ,or most ,mod cons.Staff were friendly and approachable, breakfast tasty and served with a smile. The only odd thing was the absence of a chair in the room yet there were 4 sets of drawers. When asked ,staff first said there would be no room but complied readily.

We just had the most wonderful wedding weekend here. We occupied a number of the rooms over 3 nights and all our guests were very impressed with the service, rooms and food and found the location just perfect. Rebekah, Michael and all their team clearly take pride in what they do and went out of there way to ensure we... More

We had dinner there , visiting Hebden bridge for the first time. We parked in the small courtyard car park adjacent, great for my Mum who doesn't walk far these days. Having had several recommendations for the food at the White Lion, we were delighted by the prompt and friendly service, and the good food. The decor was modern but... More

We wanted a private room for a midday meal, with 15 family members, to celebrate two birthdays, with a wide age range including a 70-year-old, a baby in a high chair and children aged 5 to 8. The White Lion offered us their 'snug', and asked us to place our orders a day in advance, which was very reasonable. It... More

Like many others before me this is an ideal location if you are attending a wedding in the nearby Town Hall . Hebden Bridge is at first glance a dour looking darkened stone town but it oozes charm. We were in one of the courtyard rooms (£105) and were able to park the car in the yard outside our room.... More

I recently visited the White Lion (a family trip up north) in the lovely town of Hebden Bridge, We decided to go to the White Lion having been recommended by friends to do so - and I can really see why! The place is lovely and extremely charming - the venue, both in and out is exactly what you imagine... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A REAL YORKSHIRE WELCOME AWAITS...The White Lion Hotel is a traditional coaching inn, with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine, yet informal and relaxed country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. Surrounded by true Yorkshire history and the stunning countryside of the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. The countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn, and that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way. Also within easy access to the rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the inn is centrally based for business or leisure. And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished boutique bedrooms, with Victorian roll-top baths and deep luxurious colours, are complimented by family rooms and courtyard cottages - with the riverside literally at your front door. Dated 1657, the White Lion Hotel is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! Now under new ownership since September 2011 and with a full building refurbishment to be completed by December 2011; we look forward to welcoming you soon... ... more   less
