Visited the white lion about a month ago, we both had the fish and chips which arrived after quite a long wait. After starting our main course we were highly disappointed the fish was basically inedible and very greasy, swimming in oil when we tried to cut through the middle of the fish, the oil definitely needed to be changed... A wide variety of mains on the menu, including vegetarian options. Food was lovely, beer selection was great. Staff friendly and attentive and the ambience pleasant. Relaxed and pleasant lunch with friends.

I stayed with my partner and a group of friends on a Friday and Saturday night. We had a big meal on the first night. It was a bit pricey but I have to say everyone's meals looked fab. My partner and I had the fondue to start which was lovely and I got a generous portion of the vege... More

My partner and I called in following a google search of pubs in the area. So glad we did! We both had the garlic field mushrooms to start - delicious! Huge, meaty and tasty mushrooms with a hunk of warm bread and slices of Parmesan cheese. We both thought we wouldn't be able to finish our main dish following that;... More

Sunny morning decided to drive over to the 'Vintage Rally' in Hebden Bridge...this was great fun, well organised by the local Rotary Club, Then we walked in to the town which we hadn't visited for some years.. the shops and facilities are much improved, and the floral displays are wonderful. The White Lion Hotel looked lovely, and we weren't disappointed,... More

We stayed for one night B&B at the White Lion (having seen it recommended in the Waitrose Weekend paper - June 2014) and were thoroughly impressed from start to finish. We received a very warm and friendly welcome on checking in, enjoyed a wonderful lunch - the Yorkshire Platter - highly recommended (one is enough for 2 to share), our... More

3 couples stayed in the courtyard cottages, no warm welcome, and all 3 courtyard cottages were a disappointment. In cottages 8 and 9 there has been some dampness on the ajoining wall, the beds were uncomfortable and the pillows hard, also stains on the carpet. The bathrooms need updating to a standard that warrants £105 per night.

Visited for lunch as part if the Street Choirs Festival . The food was plentiful and of high quality . I had a ham sandwich with lots of accompaniments including great chips. service was friendly and helpful. there needed to be many more staff to serve the customers.

Superb meal and plenty of it. Excellent service. Lovely cosy pub and very clean bathroom. Even provide a take.home for portion I couldn't finish ;-) I would definitely recommend either for lunch or evening meal and in the centre of Hebden Bridge for all attractions.

My friend and I went to watch Le Tour De France at the weekend and called in The White Lion for food. I have to say we got great service from all the staff they were very friendly and polite. The food was great, and although our order was not right the first time they were very quick to rectify... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A REAL YORKSHIRE WELCOME AWAITS...The White Lion Hotel is a traditional coaching inn, with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine, yet informal and relaxed country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. Surrounded by true Yorkshire history and the stunning countryside of the deep ravined valleys of Calderdale; the area is popular with walkers, cyclists, country lovers, and those just in search of a contrast to a hectic lifestyle. The countryside can be easily accessed by foot straight from the doorstep of the inn, and that same doorstep has frequently offered a place of respite to many attempting the Pennine Way. Also within easy access to the rail and motorway networks, and just far enough away from the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester; the inn is centrally based for business or leisure. And if you were to require an excuse to stay with us for longer, then there are 10 spacious en-suite rooms to choose from. The newly refurbished boutique bedrooms, with Victorian roll-top baths and deep luxurious colours, are complimented by family rooms and courtyard cottages - with the riverside literally at your front door. Dated 1657, the White Lion Hotel is reputed to be the oldest building in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, which is renown for its independent lifestyle, creativity, and philosophy - the Yorkshire way! Now under new ownership since September 2011 and with a full building refurbishment to be completed by December 2011; we look forward to welcoming you soon... ... more   less
